Typhon Pact countdown

Invest a few minutes and call your local bookstore to see if they have any copies in stock before you go down there. They might have received it but sold out of it, but can get one from another store or have the other store hold one for you. I've learned over the years that it's a good idea to call ahead, just to be sure. Don't assume.

It's actually not *officially* released until 26 October; it'll auto-download at that time. Bookstores that currently have it have their advance copies, and will put them out. Placing books out early isn't generally frowned on as much as breaking a street-date for movies or games, apparently.

Well except if it is Harry Potter (which did happen and got it spoiled for me).

I seem to recall the Pocket editors saying that the ST novels don't have an official "street date" and that online sellers require a day and month for their automated catalogues, so they pick a day in the last week of the month before the announced publishing month. So there's no problem with shops putting out new ST stock as soon as it arrives. Certainly, though, some eagerly-coveted books (eg "Harry Potter") do have very strict street dates, and fines and sanctions can apply if broken.

My copy arrived on Friday via Amazon, can't wait to start reading (had to finish Chuck Hogan's and Guillermo Del Toro's The Strain first ;)) :techman:

how is it to read on these e book readers (kindle for instance)? cause i'm thinking of getting one. both to read, and take notes on. got a 15 inch laptop but its too big sometimes to carry along. been thinking of ipad but its too expensive to use only for reading and writing. got no other use for it except for those two. and $140 isnt so awfully pricey for the kindle.

Got my copy....just have 20 pages of A Singular Destiny to finish first (well done KRAD btw I read about three-quarters of it in one sitting)...then it's on to Typhon Pact, ayo!:bolian:

Nice! Reading A Singular Destiny and ZSG back to back sounds like fun, I had to wait for months to get my Typhon Pact fix after ASD had set the whole thing up ;)

Ha! Me too. I had to do it in several sittings, but haven't had any quiet time to read those last few pages, but yeah, good one KRAD!

There should be a thread hanging round this forum discussing the e-reader-options. I've moved from a Sony to a Kindle3 , and I'm pleased ;)

Easier to read than books are, I think almost inarguably. Writing is different; there's no independent text editor, but you can make notes on books and then search back through them really easily, so that might be what you're looking for.

no, more along the lines of taking notes during classes, seminars and stuff. thanks anyway then. if there's no text editor ill stick to my pda2k...

ah, right, i know the one. :brickwall:

My copy of "Zero Sum Game" just arrived today, which I thought was odd for a Sunday. Some independent courier via amazon. No complaints though!

My only regret about the Typhon Pact series is that Heather Jarman isn't among its authors. David Mack and David R. George III are two of my three favorite working Star Trek authors, and I would love to read a new novel by the third. (No offense at all to Dayton Ward, but I would have hoped she'd write the novel revisiting Andor after Paradigm.)

I'm curious about the cover of "Rough Beasts of Empire": what's with Sisko sporting his 'commander' look?

As for Zero Sum Game, I'm waiting until I received Singular Destiny in the mail and read it.Looking forward to Typhon Pact, though. Last I read of Bashir was Worlds of DS9.

Speculation suggests that it relates to his memories of the last Tzenkethi War. Whether that's accurate or not, we'll see in two months.
