By the time the gorn were done massacring the colony, there was little to no information there to be obtained. The colonists were all dead, the infrastructure destroyed.

Plus - they maintaned the same behavioural pattern even after they destroyed the colony - trying to kill Kirk&co after luring him into a trap, attacking the enterprise, being unrepentant for their actions, etc.

In other words, no, you don't have evidence that that information was obtained before they destroyed the colony.

But, as you always do, you start with ridiculously implausible hypotheticals.

And there's a difference between starting with a hypothetical and simply pointing out that there's no evidence for another hypothesis.

Are the Typhon pact novels being written with the Gorn Crisis being considered part of the background? Is the comic considered part of the the novel continuity?

Yup. Nanietta Bacco's backstory in A Time for War, A Time for Peace and Articles of the Federation both reference The Gorn Crisis.

I'm saying that even John Wayne Westerns from the 1950s acknowledged that the Indians had a point, and attacks on settlers, while regrettable, were hardly unjustified. If the US had gone around charging Indians with war crimes, it would've made the very concept of war crimes into a joke, something the powerful use to punish vanquished foes.

Yeah, let's not forget who the invaders were. And let's not forget that the massacres were hardly one-sided. There was a time in US history when American citizens were offered cash rewards for slaughtering Native Americans in their homes. Case in point:

Entire Native American villages were slaughtered down to the last man, woman, and child as a result of these rewards. They were defined as animals to be hunted down for sport.

Bottom line, if everyone were held accountable for the sins of their ancestors, we'd all be in a constant state of warfare. You can't dwell forever on the past. Instead of using past evils as an excuse for new hatred and violence, they should be used as an incentive to build new understanding and peace so that they won't happen again. And to all indications, that is what the Federation and the Gorn did after Cestus III, and again after The Gorn Crisis.

Sorry David. I started this thread before purchasing and reading your book. I also assumed, erroneously I now see, that a thread discussing the "Typhon Pact Concept" would imply the presence of likely spoilers within the discussion for people who have not read the Typhon Pact books.

When I started to discuss your book (Post #19) I provided the following warning:

BE WARNED: THERE ARE SPOILERS AHEAD IF YOU HAVE NOT READ ROUGH BEASTS OF EMPIRE​

I did this because I did not know how to go back and edit the title of the thread. I realize that this approach was not very thorough, since all people do not read the posts within a thread in a linear fashion.​

I am unsure how to "hide text" with a gray spoiler box -- any tips as to how one can do this would be greatly appreciated.​

Hiding text with a gray spoiler box is actually a fairly straightforward matter. After you have written something you want to hide, but prior to actually hitting the "Post" button, simply highlight the text you want secreted away. Once you have that text highlighted, click on the button at the far right of the line of buttons above the posting box; it is a little yellow smile face, with two eyes and an x for a mouth. When you click it, a dialogue box will appear that says: "Please enter the option for your

For example, if you type in the Sisko parts, your text will be hidden "behind" a button that says "Click to view a spoiler about... the Sisko parts." I hope that is easy to follow.
