How accurate were the early playmates Type 2 phaser cosplay, compared with the later officially licensed version?

Thinking of buying.

Not very... The Art Asylum/Diamond Select Phasers are MUCH better. Those were actually used in the ST:ENT In a Mirror Darkly episodes.

I'm surprised there isn't a page somewhere comparing all the toy/model versions released, like I once read for the various AMT Enterprise versions.

I've bought a second hand playmates version. It's a lot cheaper and I only need it as it will be in view during some filming I am doing. I have the best reproduction Kirk uniform, but the phaser will only be seen held in the hand, so I think it should work.
