TWOK:DE

I think all of the restored scenes (minus the ladder scene where Kirk tells Spock "That young man is my son" to which Spock replies "Fascinating") should have been left in the theatrical cut, they all add a great deal to the film

Agreed, that scene was a bit cringe-worthy...

I would have liked to have seen two more scenes added: the extended "approach to Enterprise" where Kirk congratulates Sulu on his new command (though only if the rumors aren't true and the scene was good enough to include), and the earlier Kirk conversation with Spock establishing that Saavik is half-Romulan.

Is Richard Dean Anderson doing anything these days?

He has a part on General Hospital, not that he needs the work. Between MacGyver and Stargate, he's pretty well set. I think his GH part is just an occasional thing, leaving him free to semi-retire and spend time with his family.
I really think you're inflating the perceived problem way too much. I've met Grace, Majel, George, Jimmy and Walter and had numerous talks with them over the three days of each convention they were attending, eaten meals at their table, and I've worked on the convention stage with them. They did not spout anti-Shatner sentiments with every breath. In fact they hardly mentioned him, although they did get asked frequently, by avid fans in the audience and chatty fans on the convention floor and in the dealers' rooms, "So what was it really like to work with William Shatner".

They really don't need to. Past interviews, etc have made it quite clear what their grievances are. There comes a point where you just stop talking about people who piss you off as it's unnecessarily upsetting.

What is perhaps very interesting is that they were always full of praise for the talents of Leonard Nimoy. And they all called DeForest Kelley a true gentleman.

Which is telling.

General Hospital? IMDB says he hasn't been on that show in almost 30 years, but I suppose it's not the most accurate of sources. It would be a bit of a shame if he was forced to do soaps, actually.

You’re looking at the wrong “General Hospital.” Whatever http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0196249/ was went off the air about 30 years ago, but http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0056758/ is still on the air. However, IMDB says Anderson was on the show from 1976-1981, when both series were on the air.

^Either way, it's in his filmography as the most recent show he's in/on.

And I don't think he'd be "reduced" to doing soaps in any event. Between MacGyver and Stargate, as I said, he's pretty well set.

I don't get it. IMDB says Richard Dean Anderson was on "General Hospital," the soap which has run from 1953 to the present, from 1976-1981. He's not listed as being on the other show of the same name at all.

Which is exactly what I said before: Anderson hasn't been on that show in almost 30 years. Wikipedia, IMDB, and Anderson's own website all confirm this.

His most recent entries in his filmography are "Facing Kate" and various "Stargate" productions, as well as his appearances on SNL as MacGyver in various McGruber sketches.

Re Richard Dean Anderson: He has a part on General Hospital

You're looking at the wrong end of his bio. That was one of his first TV roles, which he hasn't done since 1981.

not that he needs the work.
Seems like he's done very little since "Stargate". Yeah, he's probably rich enough not to have to work. Too bad for those poor sap actors from the 60s who signed contracts that denied them royalties after the second rerun, even if their series became wildly successful in syndication.

There comes a point where you just stop talking about people who piss you off as it's unnecessarily upsetting.
At every convention, there'll always be new ST fans and William Shatner fans attending their very first convention. Just imagine when that fan asks their inevitable first question from the audience, "So what was it really like working with William Shatner?" and the guest says, "Sorry, next question", or "I've answered that question too many times before", or "No comment."

Re DeForest Kelley a true gentleman: Which is telling.
Exactly.
