Two Shows That Need To Be Cancelled!

Well I'm sure everybody could add their favorites to that list, but I don't give a flip about Castle. It looks like it's safe-ish, but be warned that ABC has ordered an unusually large number of pilots this year and where they draw the cutoff line depends on how many of them turn out well. Your best bet is to pray for GCB's ratings to crash between now and May.

NBC and ABC have the most interesting sounding pilots, so I want them to wield the heaviest axe. FOX needs some good shows in their lineup, but their pilots are weak this time around. The CW has a couple decent sounding pilots, but I'm always leery of how their shows are going to turn out.
Petitions to get certain shows canceled are perhaps one of the silliest ideas out there.
If anything, they'd work even worse than petitions to save shows. But it makes sense to root for shows to get cancelled, if they're on a network that might greenlight something better in its place. What's the point of TLC cancelling some sleazy crap? It'll just put more sleazy crap in its place.

I'm rarely one to actively hope for a TV show to get cancelled just because I don't like it; it's a rather selfish call for one to make. However, when shows are particularly vile I have no problem hoping they're canned and filth like Toddlers and Tiaras is such an example. TLC clearly doesn't care about the quality of their shows so there's no hope that they'll ax it because of that so I just have to hope that viewers tune out and realize that shows like that are not only unhealthy for society but also unhealthy for themselves (not a judgment call- it's been repeatedly proven that watching "zoning out" TV makes you more likely to be depressed).

I remember when TLC actually had educational material in its lineups. Sadly, they decided to go down the more profitable path of becoming predominantly a reality show haven.

The Only Way is Essex, Desperate Scousewives, Made in Chelsea, Geordie Shore and anything Simon Cowell is involved with like X-Factor and Britain's Got Talent can all fuck off and die.

If we get rid of all shows that abuse kids I want to make sure Dance Moms is on the top of the list, that hateful.ugly and racist Fat Teacher Abby Lee Miller and those "Mothers"should be arrested for the abuse they heap out on those anorexic girls.:techman:

Ghost Hunters, Big Foot hunting shows, shouldn't necessarily be canceled. But they should be fined for brain malfunction. That's worse than a wardrobe malfunction or a curse word any day.

The conservatives have probably dropped public service from the requirements for broadcast licenses. But if they haven't, then religous programming should not count.

Cancel everything on TV and start over. :borg:

I like that moxie. Proceed, please! :rommie:

It's kinda like the "kill 'em all & let God sort 'em out" mentality. Definitely one way to take care of things.

1) 19 Kids & Counting - My girlfriend and her mother love this show, but it's like watching a cult. Usually I'm totally on board with people having their own beliefs and sharing it, but the Duggar ideal of "God will tell us when we should stop having children" is prehistoric. There is no way each of these kids is getting the attention a kid should get, I don't care what is portrayed on the screen. They are taken into churches and other events, so their parents or cult leaders, whatever, can share how "God knows when they should stop having kids." What if these two lost their jobs (do they even work?) or the revenue from the show? How are they going to feed two children, let alone nineteen? Irresponsible is just the tip of the iceberg.

I don't watch TLC(stupid channel) or reality TV at all, but I can't help but see a certain disconnect in your argument.

You worry about the Duggars not being able to feed and cloth their kids. Yet in the same breath you want to get their show cancelled and hence not collect that revenue stream anymore? Self-fulfilling prophecy is self-fulfilling.

Then, at least, the Duggars would really know what reality was.

How would you care for 19 kids without the entire country sending donations, or the revenue from a reality show, or companies sending product & furniture? Idiots.

I hope we're not counting Ramsey's Kitchen Nightmares in the reality show purge. The show is extremely entertaining, if not repetitive.

1- Come to a failing restaurant.
2- Figure out the problems (almost always pre-prepared food & lackadaisical chefs).
3- Cuss everyone out.
4- Repeat step 3 when necessary.

Still funny though.

I put 'reality' shows into two different categories: Helpful, and Hurtful shows:
Helpful shows include: cooking shows, DIY shows, travel shows, and shows like Mythbusters
Hurtful shows are those that play on the foibles of the human condition: Jersey Shore, Real Housewives of wherever, ______ Wives (Mob, Basketball, Baseball), etc.
Basically anything that you can see on The Soup.

I'm ok if they cancel the hurtful shows. I'm even more ok if they cancel all those little kid beauty pagents. That is just wrong.

Don't forget step 5-Google restaurant and find out that 6 months later it went out of business.

Hopefully that doesn't happen too often ;)

Afraid that wasn't a joke most of the Restaurants on the show have gone under, mainly because they won't stick with the new program Ramsey sets them up with.

Yeah, I haven't seen many of the "revisited" episodes, but even in those, the people have fallen back on bad habits.

Add Long Island Medium to this list simply by the commercial (Yes, TLC is on a lot in our house.)

I used to watch a lot of the ghost tracking shows and there could be spirits floating around, but I think this woman and people like her are frauds. It's like WWE: if they come and tell me it's entertainment and staged, then I will accept it and avoid it as more trash on the airwaves. But if you want to say its all real, I call BS.

I'd like to see 2 Broke Girls cancelled. My gf loves it so I watch it with her but I stopped laughing after the second episode when it became clear wasn't just "finding" itself the way some shows do bad that it really was just 25 minutes per week of poor acting, stereotypes and racist/sexist humour.

Seconded--it is astonishing that 20 years ago you had a handful of channels and a lot of good shows and now we literally have hundreds of channels and I can't find anything worth watching.

MTV doesn't even play videos anymore. VH1 has become BET 2.0, SyFy has awful D movies and fluffy tv series. USA is nothing but Law and Order and NCIS reruns most days. The news channels like CNN have been ruined with the line-ups and anchors they've hired in the last decade--Anderson Cooper, Piers Morgan, John King to name a few. Broadcast tv is worse with lame remakes(90210, Melrose Place, Bionic Woman, Knight Rider, Charlies Angels, Hawaii 5-0 to name a few), formulaic cop/lawyer/dramas(Body of Proof, Unforgettable, CSIs, Criminal Minds, Burn Notice). You can forget about finding a decent primetime soap like a Dallas, Melrose Place, Knot's Landing etc--I thought Revenge might be good but it is poorly plotted and the scheming on that show would never make JR Ewing or Kimberly Shaw proud.

And forget decent sci-fi/fantasy. The days of TNG, B5, DS9, The X-Files, Quantum Leap seem to be behind us with the crap churned out anymore--The Event, Caprica, Eureka, SG Atlantis, Stargate Universe, Haven, Being Human(US), True Blood, Secret Circle, Fringe, post S1 Heroes, Flash Forward, Surface, The River, Alcatraz, Terra Nova, post S4 Supernatural, Smallville, Life on Mars, Grimm and the list could go on.

The studios need much better writers. Because clearly the ones they have know don't know how to write interesting characters you become attached to or don't know how to come up with interesting *fresh* storylines with satisfying payoffs.

Oi, I feel for you.

In the instances where girlfriends of the past have had questionnable tastes in television (American Idol etc.), I'd basically refuse to watch said crap. It's a wonder those relationships lasted as long as they did....

By the way, shows like "2 Broke Girls" are one of the many reasons I loathe network television in general. That and the endless deluge of fucking cop/lawyer/doctor procedurals.

I'm firmly of the opinion that most of those so-called 'reality' shows are as scripted and pre-planned as any other. They're all fake. They've got to be.

I wouldn't say they are "scripted" the way, say, Law and Order or CSI are... but they definitely are pre-planned.

The "reality" in reality TV is not real at all. Nothing on TV is. Everything you see on tv or in the movies is there because someone wants you to see it. With reality TV, the "reality" comes from the premeditated scenarios devised by the story producers combined with the cast reacting to those premeditated scenarios when first confronted with said scenarios.

^^^
Which imo makes the whole scenario unreal.
The participants know they are at some point going to be in a situation.
Then when they are, they know they are on TV so their reaction is going to be a hyper version depending on the person. As of late(see 8yrs) hardly anyone isn't having a hyper reaction in order to make a name for themselves and try to stretch their 15min ala Kardashian.

Who cares?

The point is, people still watch reality TV and reality TV is still cheaper to produce than scripted. If it's delivering eyeballs, it's going to stick around.
