They're remaking it again.
A remake of the 1996 game.
I don't think it will be delayed because they've been working on two games for years already. No way we're getting back to back games because game development is so bad these days. I expect Tomb Raider: Catalyst to be delayed past 2027 and also awful name!
They're remaking it again.
I'm guessing this is going to be a bog standard "we're to lazy to make something new so we redid this old game the modern gaming audience thinks is old and icky to look at with new fancy dancy graphics and microtransactions to harpoon whales" cash grab.
At least Tomb Raider: Anniversary (the 2007 remake of the first game) had a narrative reason for it being made. It was part of the running story line at that time with it and Tomb Raider: Legend being setups for Tomb Raider: Underworld.
I think they both look good, although part of me feels sad they didn't simply continue with the previous Lara even though they technically finished the trilogy. Would have been nice to see the current Lara evolve into the experienced Lara, where we could have still seen a remake of the first game and a mix of both new and old design philosophies.
Unintentionally, they've divided the fandom into camps that either prefer the older styled games and those who prefer the Uncharted-styled games. There's no reason why there can't bit a mix of both in the design of the levels, but I was never really able to get into the early games.
I think it is the current Lara as she's got current Lara's necklace. Why not continue with current Lara?

Legacy of Atlantis looks like it's just going to be Anniversary again with the current Survivor Lara replacing Legend Lara.

Fair point. Seems like they have done many over the yearsHow many remakes of Tomb Raider are we on now? Didn't they literally just re-release it on Switch?![]()
Those where remasters...How many remakes of Tomb Raider are we on now? Didn't they literally just re-release it on Switch?![]()
I think diehard fans have always been divided between the original Lara Croft games and the reboot Lara Croft. That's always been the way I suspect. I just enjoy the games for what they are as there is no real point in getting that hung up about a character.
they could do what Uncharted does, have a "hint" option, and finally a "solve puzzle" optionOh, I know and there are some who prefer the original games, which is why the recently remastered versions of the games were well-received by those fans. I'm not obtuse, but some of the puzzles in those early Tomb Raider games I find frustrating because they can have you going in circles and I don't particularly enjoy them as they can tend to be overly complex.
It will be interesting to see if they end up keeping the complexity in the remake or if it will share more modern game design ideas.
