Two New Exclusive Clips - MTV and Yahoo! Movies

Re: NEW CLIP-"Shot Of Love"-Kirk & Uhura (Chris Pine & Zoe Saldana)

It all does seem very natural, for a 21st century bar encounter, just not a 23rd century one. "Maybe you can't count, farmboy?" What's wrong with being a farmboy? Are there still illiterates in the 23rd century?

Is Iowa still a backwards nowhere even 250 years from now? 'Cause the dialogue implies that, and I think that's my problem with the clip.

Re: NEW CLIP-"Shot Of Love"-Kirk & Uhura (Chris Pine & Zoe Saldana)

The Starfleeters, Uhura included, seem unreasonably dismissive of Kirk just because he's a local. Seems unnatural for members of Starfleet to be that rude.

Good clip otherwise.
In other words, they're acting like real people rather than the touchy-feely type as portrayed in TOS, correct? That's one reason why DS9 strikes a chord with certain fans, because it's how people actually are and would be.

You don't even know what the fuck you're ranting about. The characters on Star Trek were hardly touchy-feely types. You're thinking of TNG and Voyager. The characters on Star Trek were red blooded, passionate, opinionated people. In short they were perfect analogues for the men who were running the show who grew up during the Great Depression and came of age during WWII. In short not touchy-feely types but intelligent, responsible, red blooded, passionate adults with shitloads of life-experience and maturity. Sure as hell not the spoiled pampered Baby Boomers and Gen Xers who drove Trek right into the ground with their silly touchy-feely philosophies.

I anything the Starfleeters being dismissive towards a mere townie is no different than their attitudes towards colonists, miners and beurocratic types. Star Trek era Starfleet types were tough bastards.

And rude!

Re: NEW CLIP-"Shot Of Love"-Kirk & Uhura (Chris Pine & Zoe Saldana)

In fact, Uhura is "dismissive" of Kirk because he's an inebriated stranger who's making a pass at her. Her fellow cadets are intimidating toward him for the same reason - and then he insults them.

All seems very natural to me. Happens to me every day.

It never gets easier, does it? ;)

Bah. I'd take the DS9 crew over the TOS crew any day of the week as to which group is tougher, grittier, and more realistic.

Sisko knowingly helped assassinate an innocent Romulan and decided he could live with it.

Re: NEW CLIP-"Shot Of Love"-Kirk & Uhura (Chris Pine & Zoe Saldana)

It's not new but it is a good clip.

It's not new? oh, for Pete's sake. Can't we get new clips that are new? This old clip looked new enough to me. Knowing that it's not new is getting old. I knew this would happen.

I meant not new to the forum. I suspect a few more clips are forthcoming before 5/8 arrives, we have yet to see some snippets of a few other Main Characters.

Yeah, and Riker unnecessarily vaporized a hot chick he was banging just to save some slob.

Thank you for handling that dear...saved me the trouble. Looking at this clip doesn't give me any hope for the future, let alone the movie......guys are still assholes in bars even hundreds of years from now??? Ugh......

Re: NEW CLIP-"Shot Of Love"-Kirk & Uhura (Chris Pine & Zoe Saldana)

Guys being assholes in bars will probably have more staying power than other aspects of our culture. I'm pretty sure it's not something we invented, either -- belligerent drunken attempts to pick up uninterested women have been a feature of bars for at least a few hundred years already.

Why wouldn't puffed-up Starfleet cadets dreaming of the vast reaches of the galaxy consider Iowa a backwards nowhere?

Star Trek can be very homespun-which makes sense, since the entire audience lives on Earth-but it also makes sense to have some characters who are eager to get the hell out of Dodge...

I third that. I did the same and I could see De doing the same dialog in the same way. Brilliant.

J.

Hey, I just noticed: That isn't Sulu getting ready to fight Kirk in the bar. Those early reports of the 20 minutes of footage lied!

anyone who thinks the crew were touchy feely nice nice should watch more tos like galieo 7.. the all time snipe fest.

kirk often came across as smug and sometimes took it over the border with perhaps tribbles being on the best examples of that.

i didnt want to start a new thread just for this but i dont know if it has been posted before.
from new zealand with some interviews of the cast.
non spoilers ..

Re: MTV Exclusive - NEW 45 Second Exclusive Clip!

Don't know if it's already been posted but Yahoo Movies has a 45 second clip of McCoy meeting Kirk

Awesome. Thank you.

45 Seconds Long. Our first look at a scene from the new film. I found it hilarious!

This was also featured during the Press Junket a while abck.
Bloody hell, does anyone have a YouTube or alternate site? They "can't play the video in my region."

Proxy Server.

On the Apple trailers site there's now a high-def version of the Kirk/Spock bridge clip. You can pretend you have Trek XI on blu-ray!
