"Twilight" series: please explain vampires and skin...

And the first time they do it is in very warm water of the ocean (also said to make it easier on her)

And as anyone who's *tried* to have sex in watter can tell you - it's a pretty crappy lubricant.

Salt water (and *sand*) make it even *worse*!

But if I imagine he can get her pregnant, he would have to make/have/expell semen...so probably some "vampire magic" would take over durring attempted intercourse...?

'cause sex with a female vampire would be ust as bad...like fucking a cold fish - and women need blood flow just as much as men for their labia to swell and their vagina to open (more), lubricate & lengthen...otherwise it would be like sex with a corpse...(though, some people are aparently into that...)

Really, a few added lines of dialog that lovemaking makes a vampire magically "warm up" would answer the question...(hey, if sunlight can make them magically "sparkle" - or burn up, etc...)

Well as I did state the vampires in this universe do have blood flow, their hearts do beat, they do breathe, ect.

As for your specific points.

Well sand does suck. But as for as water both fresh and salt, you can use things besides a women's natural lubricate to make it fine. Just not water soluble ones, and since they weren't worried about pregnancy you don't have to worry about condoms and how those two elements (specific lubes, and salt water) would degrade a condom.

For example vaseline works quite well in water environments, at least good enough..

As for on the female side, the writer goes into minor details on the difference. Female vampires can't get pregnant in this universe. While they do have blood flow, their bodies can't change, thus they can't build they environment that would sustain a fetus. While a man after puberty body has already changed to allow him to produce sperm. THus Edward and any other adult post puberty age vampire male can produce viable sperm.

Now the sad thing is if a female was turned when on her cycle she would be on her cycle for eternity.

As for the body temperature of the female vampire (Yikes), we don't see any human character having or attempting to have sex with one. Its always vampire on vampire in that regard and since all vampires run colder then human, the temperature for them seems normal.

In fact edward feels rather hot (almost burning) touching Bela but while he is able to feel the temperature difference, his body skin is harder to actually damage.

What the hell? They're not vampires, then.

Yes, because vampires are real things that are bound to specific biological laws...

:shifty:
No, but there are traditional rules when it comes to vampires. Some rules are ignored, but usually not all of them. If they walk in sunlight without any ill effects (some vampires are depicted as being able to survive under the sun, but their powers are weakened and/or they feel like crap while doing so), if their hearts beat, if their blood flows, and if they can breathe, then they can't be vampires. They'd just really be people with pale skin who suffer from porphyria.

The whole sparkly skin thing (and the constant references that Edward's body was hard like stone) really annoyed the crap out of me. WTF? Really only teenage girls could be so strung out over Twilight. The storyline was a poor imitation of other, more adult books and the casting of Bella S - U - C - K - E - D. Pun intended.

Having said that, I hope no one minds if I go off on a tangent about how the Buffyverse always contradicted itself on whether vampires could breathe. In the season one finale, Angel couldn't give mouth-to-mouth resuscitation to Buffy because vampires have no breath, and in Dopplegangland Willow commented that vampires don't need to breathe. However, in the season two finale, Spike chokes Drew until she passes out, and in a latter episode someone tortures Spike by holding his head under water. Besides, how could vampires talk if they can't breathe? (Again, magic, obviously)
If I can offer some (possible) explainations:

1. Angel not reviving Buffy: if I remember correctly, mouth-to-mouth works not because of the breathing, but because you exale your carbon dioxide into the lungs, kicking off the breating reflex into the victim. So vampires can inhale and exhale, but their body do not produce carbon dioxide.

2. Spike choking Dru: maybe she passed out not from lack of air, but of blood supply to the brain. Of course, this open the problem that, apparently, vampires lack a circulation, too. So I guess they simply screwed up this one.

3. Spike's torture: even if they do not breath, maybe the breathing reflex is still there and water triggers it. So he could not die from it, but it was still very painful and uncomfortable. Or he was just being a drama queen.

4. Vampires talking: again, there is nothing against the fact that they can inhale and exale air, even if they do not need to breath. I guess they can do that when they want to talk.

Obviously, those are just supposition... in that case, that's magic. ;)

Well frankly my opinion of the abilities and limitations of the vampires in these books are irrelevant. I am just responding to the questions posted.

As to Vampire lore, there is a ton , in fact most cultures do have some form of "Vampire" myth. And in no way shape or form am I interested in finding out what characteristics are the common inter linking ones.

I am not a fan of these books, read them only due to boredom and a family member recommending them.
