Twilight fan hit by car and killed at Comic-Con

Wow, tough room.

I figured since it had to do with Twilight (tangentially anyway), it'd be worthy of the forum in at least being news somewhat related to this year's Comic-Con.

Clearly there are more important things to discuss.

My apologies for forcing you to click on this thread and read it when there are so many others more worthwhile of your time.

It was just odd man, the story itself had very little (if anything) to do with Sci-Fi/Fantasy and what happened to this woman was nothing more than a traffic accident, the type of which happens 100s of times a day all over the country. Is it sad? Sure. But it's hardly unique enough or attached enough to SciFi to devote a thread to it in this forum.

I had read that the line was being "turned around" so the end was the beginning and people were hightailing it to get where the new line was. WTF? Please tell me this is wrong, that something as well-established as Comic-Con could not figure out crowd control?

OF COURSE fans of a series are going to do their best to get into the line when things are change. Very easy to assume that people will rush. What's not reasonable is having this being done so close to traffic, IF in fact it was. Again, I'm going off of what I read and I may be wrong.

I hope that what I read was misreported.

And pity the poor driver. I hit a kid once. It was ghastly. He was barely tapped (thank God) but it was just horrible for me. I was lucky and his dad (when he arrived on the scene) was just wonderful. Not everyone is sue happy.

I got hit by a truck about 8 years back. I was crossing on a green light and the dumb motherfucker wasn't paying attention so he hit me. I was knocked back about five feet and hit the ground hard. Adrenaline was pumpin' so I didn't feel any pain until the next day. Really fucked up my back. Wish I'd sued the motherfucker, though he was a bartender so what the fuck would I have gotten?

People are too stupid to live! :klingon:

You're not the only one that worries about this. I used to worry about it more when I was living in downtown Chicago because people would run across the street anywhere. Being really aware when you drive can only help to a certain amount because if someone runs across the street from somewhere that's not easily visible, you could potentially have very little to no warning.

Yesterday morning a child ran out from behind a large delivery truck into the road right in front of me. And I mean right in front of me.

I was on my motorbike and he saw me at the last second and somehow managed to jump in the air at the same time as I slammed on my brakes. He actually jumped over the front wheel and missed being hit by inches. Had he not jumped, or had I not hit the brakes at the exact moment I did, he would certainly have been flattened by a quarter ton of motorbike.

Scariest moment on the road I have ever had.

Well, if we're not allowed to make fun of Twilight in the thread, then it is just a traffic accident.

My aunt had breast cancer. She also likes Space:1999. I Thought You All Should Know.

Don't feel bad, we've all come to terms with the fact she likes that terrible show.

Nah, sometimes shit just happens. In my case, I should have looked a second time and the kid shouldn't have come on his bike around my car. His brother and friend were still on the sidewalk, prudently waiting. Dumbass kid and dumbass me.

Have to admit, the con fucked it up when it came to that panel. If people are having to camp out 5 days ahead of the panel, they need more panels or a much larger hall.

That's not saying the lady wasn't stupid in crossing (nevermind the stupidity of someone my age gushing over the retards of Twilight) but man, she paid a high price. :(

Sounds to moi like Comic-Con is just too big in general. What the heck does Twilight have to do with comics, anyway? (And yes, I know there was a comic adaptation of at least the first book, but it's still a valid question.)

Comic-Con has been about more than comics for years. That Twilight is featured (again, this isn't their first rodeo there) should not be a surprise to anyone.
