Twilight fan hit by car and killed at Comic-Con

doubleohfive

Fleet Admiral
The woman was in a crosswalk and had a red light when she tried to run across Harbor Drive toward the convention center about 9:20 a.m., said police Sgt. Ron Glass.

The driver of one car saw her and slowed down, but the driver of a Subaru Outback didn’t see her in time, Glass said. The pedestrian tried to stop her own momentum when she saw the oncoming Subaru but tripped and hit the side of the car, Glass said.

I haven't seen anyone post about this yet, so I thought I'd share. Let's be classy in this thread and NOT MAKE ANY TWILIGHT JOKES. This is a tragedy.

2) I am constantly paranoid when I'm driving that some pedestrian is going to do exactly this and that I might wind up hurting or killing someone through no fault of my own. I'm hyper aware when I'm out driving because of this. Please, everyone - be careful. Crosswalks are there for a reason.

Saw a fist fight outside the Emerald City ComiCon last year, what did that have to do with the ComiCon?

Nothing.

The death of this woman was tragic.

:)

Does it make it more of a tragedy?

Why do they mention Twilight at all?

Why is this posted on a sci fi board? Routine traffic accident.

+1, again.

I mean it's sad and all, but how many other people die every day due to accidents like this? Do they get threads devoted to them?

Umm... ok? This really didn't need to be posted here.

Wow, tough room.

I figured since it had to do with Twilight (tangentially anyway), it'd be worthy of the forum in at least being news somewhat related to this year's Comic-Con.

Clearly there are more important things to discuss.

My apologies for forcing you to click on this thread and read it when there are so many others more worthwhile of your time.

It's a sad story. And seeing that it is about a fan who was killed in front of a very popular convention, it could be a story about just about anyone on this board. The human empathy could stand to grow a tad.

Yep.
Thirded.

I think it was perfectly appropriate for DoubleOhFive to psot this, it serves as a warning/reminder for those of us attending Conventions to be careful for ourselves when walking and careful for others while driving.

You're not the only one that worries about this. I used to worry about it more when I was living in downtown Chicago because people would run across the street anywhere. Being really aware when you drive can only help to a certain amount because if someone runs across the street from somewhere that's not easily visible, you could potentially have very little to no warning.

This is sad all around.

Sad. And what's worse, is having to camp out on a SUNDAY in hopes of a panel that won't take place 'til Thursday.

I'm 53 (as was the woman) and NFW would I camp out for several days, not even for my favorite celebrity.

If the panel is so damned popular, why doesn't Comic-Con hand out numbered bracelets, or have people sign up for a lottery?

I've been to cons where they've fucked with lines, and we've lost good places, so I understand why she was hurrying to get back.

But you don't cross against a red unless you're very, very careful and there is no traffic. She wouldn't have missed more than 2 minutes max in waiting for the light and if she had camped for a few days, certainly those in line with her would have held her place for a few minutes.

Stupidity on both sides (convention planners and attendee) that led to tragedy.

And pity the poor driver. I hit a kid once. It was ghastly. He was barely tapped (thank God) but it was just horrible for me. I was lucky and his dad (when he arrived on the scene) was just wonderful. Not everyone is sue happy.
