Twentieth Anniversary DS9 Book by DRG III

^In my chronologically read through of the entire Star Wars EU, the gems have mostly been the comics. There have been the occasional really good books, like the Darth Bane trilogy, Darth Plegeius, and the Republic Commando series.

Oohhh, I missed the part where you said the movies were pathetic too, so I guess you wouldn't be interested in those either.

You haven't seen bad Golden until you've seen her Star Wars work where Han and Leia take their granddaugther to a galactic petting zoo.

I don't even read the Star Wars books because the whole series (including movies) is pathetic.

But I really enjoyed Golden's books, from "The Murdered Sun" right up to "Enemy of my Enemy".

The most common opinion here is along the lines of the first two Voyager continuation novels weren't great and the next two were nowhere near as good as the first two.

^But people tend to forget that Golden's first few VGR novels were widely regarded as the best ones published during the series, which is why she got the job of doing the post-finale books in the first place.

It's true, and the post finale ones apparently sold very well.

It's all down to opinion - if you haven't read them Tomswift, try them and make up your own mind !

The first 4 VOY-R books by Christie Golden weren't all that bad...it's just that compared to what came next by Kirsten, they were sorely lacking. Full Circle, Unworthy and Children of The Storm are great reads. Leagues ahead of everything else, IMHO.

I felt Christie Golden's post-finale Voyager books did a great job of capturing the feel of the TV series-- right down to the things that bugged me about it! So I considered that a positive thing.

But I have to confess, I've absolutely loved all of Kirsten Beyer's Voyager books, and she's made me excited about new Voyager material coming out in a way that the TV show and previous novels never did.

I've also had absolutely no problems with Christie Golden's Star Wars books, I've found them all enjoyable. And she seems to be settling in very nicely over in the Star Wars corner of the media tie-in world... it was just announced that she's writing the entire next Legacy-era novel trilogy, Sword of the Jedi. While I'm sure she could write for both SW and Trek if she really wanted to, SW seems to be keeping her busy for now.

I've read most of Golden's Trek work (I think the only one I haven't read yet is Last Roundup, but that wasn't a Voyager novel). But I have read all her Voyager books.

Fair enough ! I think Homecoming and Farther Shore probably get a bit of a raw deal getting lumped in with the Spirit Walk duology. I eagerly snapped up the first two and quite enjoyed them, but felt let down by the next two which I really thought were very poor indeed.

I was looking forward to The Last Roundup too, and wasn't impressed with that, which is when I started to have reservations about her Trekwork.

As I said, it's all down to personal taste...

By the way, a couple of posts above have left in a stray quote tag and give the impression of crediting me for something that was actually said by Relayer1 in response to me. Just to make that clear. I don't want to take credit for someone else's words.

Sorry about that - I should have spotted and tidied that up in my previous post. I think I've sorted it now.

It's easy to put words in someone else's mouth isn't it ?

I'll second the fact that Golden's first two books were far better than the second two. That being said they were still poor compared to the new series.
