Because season one's slipcases have only one disk, while the rest have two.

No, I know that. But... why? Why not just do Season 1 in the style that they were going to do all the others?

No idea, but if I were to guess, I'd say it was a cost cutting measure. We ARE talking about Paramount here, after all.
