Tv Series Box Sets

I've noticed that a handful of TV series have recently came out with box sets for their released seasons. Which seems kind of dumb considering these series are still in production.

Like House for example has a box-set out.

This is just kind of lame. Box sets for entire series, sure, but for series still in production? Dumb. What are they going to do when these series end? Are the going to release a season-set for the second half?

Aren't those box sets just the individual season sets packaged together in a bigger box?

For example, the House set. If you open the big box, you'll find the individual season sets.

It's actually kinda smart.

1.) New fans can get caught up to the current season quickly instead of having to wait or to search for sets that may no longer in their area.
2.) There is usually some sort of discount (i.e. cheaper).
3.) You can get rid of overstock.

Christmas. :bolian:

I can understand the box sets if they do it in seasons of 3, but if they offer 1 thru 5 now and later only offer 1 thru the series end it will piss off a lot of people. I got M*A*S*H seasons 1thru 10 and then the box set was released with extras. I'm still a bit ticked about this; I want what you get in the box set but don't want duplicates. I must agree with Trekker on this!

I agree, Trekker. Every time I see the Harry Potter box set, I can't help but laugh at the damn fools who buy that set.

I know how you feel. I did the same thing, but as luck would have it, you don't have to buy the complete series set to get the 2 extras disks. You can get them with a duplicate of the final episode. Of course, you'll have 2 copies of THAT, but just do what I did. Give it to your best friend in an attempt to get him (or her) to like the show.

Did'nt work for me though.

It's called $$$$. It's like how the Saw "trilogy" was being sold as a box set right before Saw IV came out.

Paramount released all ten Trek movies as a box set as soon as they were all available on DVD, which was TMP 2-disc special edition and the rest were one-disc versions. And every time one of the other movies got a special edition, they repackaged it as a new box set. Every time! So there are nine Trek movie box sets out there, each with one less 1-disc movie and one more 2-disc movie.

So.. I should wait until Star Trek XXII has been released in the year 2209 before I get the final Star Trek movies box set?

While I see your point I don't even give a crap anymore, I have too many DVD's as it is to worry about whether the boxes are in boxes or not. I don't display them like precious little treasures. I just want 'em held securely and easily accessible, I don't care if they're in boxes, tins, lunchboxes, cylon heads, or what not.

You can just throw the bigger box away. It's not that big a deal.

I've done that with almost all of my Trek series DVDs. They all have packaging that's a major pain in the ass. Especially TNG, with all those stupid folding binder things. Get those binder/sleeves that Case Logic makes. Much more compact and easier to use.

The only Trek TV series that has ever had decent packaging is the TOS Blu-Rays...

Well now they are selling TOS movie box sets and TNG movie box sets so you can get each separately if you really want box sets. Waiting for a box set for the new Trek franchise really doesn't make any sense if you're willing to wait who knows how long since they're only one movie in.

I liked what New Line did with the Lord of the Rings 4-disc extended edition movies where you could buy just the box if you already had the movies. Too bad no one else does that.

This. The bigger box usually just holds the already packaged season sets in their original box.

For example, the people who buy the Harry Potter box set, they can throw away the outer slipcase and all that's inside are what you would buy anyway individually.

yes its one thing to buy season boxsets but I would not buy say a S1-3 boxset when I knew there was a 4th series (& possibly more) coming its not like you will be able to get a S4 - box set when the show finishes.

That said the Doctor who boxsets could come out with collections for each Doctor, so you could get the S1 DVD (or the 9th Doctor collection) then if they come out with it a 10th Doctor collection, and if they do that im sure they will do a 11th Doctor collection

When BSG started with the 2.5 mid season crap I stopped. I would've been content to get each full season. Instead the forced my hand and instead of having my cash every box set I denied it to them. I'm going to get the BSG entire set at a discount when DeepDiscount has their November sale and pay less overall. Haha jokes on them.

discounted complete series box sets are a very cost effective way of buying something in one go, and there is something nice about having a boxset with EVERYTHING in.
