So, with my penchant for basing themes on things that are currently in the news (read: laziness), I was originally intending to do a pandemic-themed contest. However, I wasn't entirely sure that there were enough pandemic-based movies and shows out there to support the number of entries we usually get, so I decided to open it up a little.

Your entry can be from any movie, TV series, video game, or comic book, where the world is experiencing, or has previously experienced, an event that imperils the population of the planet. The event can be anything, such as plague, climate change, nuclear war, asteroid strike--even things that are a little more "out there", such as alien invasion, or the Mayan calendar for some reason. (Obviously, SF&F is allowed.)

Standard avatar rules apply: images should be a maximum of 200 x 200 pixels, with a maximum file size of 1 MB. Everyone can enter up to two avatars. All entries must be SFW. Please identify what your entry is from. The contest will be open for about a week.

Here are my entries to start us off:

I meant that Earth would be the world in question, but in looking over the OP, I didn't specify, so you get in on a technicality. :)

You do still need to identify your sources, though. I recognize Star Trek VI, but not sure about the other one. Thank you.

I think the first one is Krypton from "Superman: The Movie".

Uh, ... is that a spoiler?

Is it? I deliberately didn't pick an image that I thought *was* a spoiler, even though it was a much better image. If you're concerned, I can change it. I didn't really figure it was a spoiler, because she's just standing there. But let me know what the issue is (feel free to spoiler-code it or PM me), and I can pick something different if needed.

(The movie is four years old, so it doesn't violate the board's spoiler policy, but I am sensitive to the spoiler issue just in general.)

12 monkeys are 25 years old,so it's just within trekbbs's spoiler rules :)

To be quite honest, I haven't seen the movie, yet. For quite a while, I simply didn't get around to it, and now that it's on Netflix, I'm actually working on a film concept I've been told has some basic similarities, so I'm actively avoiding watching the movie in order to not be influenced. But my idea of what the basic concept of 10 Cloverfield Lane is, is that the John Goodman character has locked the other characters in the basement "for their own good", and for most of the movie the audience doesn't actually know whether something actually happened out there or not.

Not about 12 Monkeys.
