Tuvix

He should have, because he was fused with Tuvok so Tuvix should have known Tuvok's dissatisfaction for leola root like everyone else on the ship. He would have the knowledge of that to figure out how to make it more edible to a more 'normal palate' since Neelix originated from the Delta Quadrant he could obviously tolerate those foods a lot more than those used to Alpha Quadrant foods.

I have to disagree on Neelix being more of an asset than Tuvok. Perhaps at various points, one was more essential than the other. But overall, they both made very important contributions to the ship. Certainly Neelix was more critical in the beginning, as a means of interacting with other species deep in the DQ and knowing important aspects of spacial regions (where to go, what to avoid, possible sources for supplies), in addition to food procurement and preparation.

I'm having a lapse in memory about Neelix though... wasn't there a point where food replicators were restored enough to significantly reduce the need for Neelix to cook? Memory Alpha details his role, but doesn't indicate anything about his workload over time.

One other thing about Tuvix, was that while he was permitted to mingle among the crew and assume some duties, he began to appreciate his particular combination of knowledge and skills. And interacting with the crew was a great satisfaction. It didn't take long before he realized what he had and then lost his nerve on letting it go. Of course, if they had put him in stasis, there wouldn't have been much of an episode... or there could have been another sub-plot, but then there wouldn't have been a contentious story provoking so many conversations about it many years after it was filmed. "Just another humdrum Voyager episode."

In the last episode, the crew, even Janeway herself, is still using replicator rations to make bets on a pool towards when baby Paris is going to come out as what sex?

In 30 days, Tom wasn't allowed replicated food in the brig. "basic nutrition". Neeelix brought him a leola root stew once that we saw. I wonder if Suder was banned from replicated food during his confinement too?

You'd have to ponder though if the rationing was a fixed set? Did everyone get the same? Did the higher ranks get more? Was there an annual or monthly review afterwhich they all got more or less? Did they get more after any time that someone died?

How many people had to die before Neelix was out of a job?

The Equinox 5 and the Borg kids would have through off the rationing something chronic. Although the Equinox 5 might have been forbidden like Tom was, which is enough to weigh up thoughts on mutiny or escape, and since the kids don't eat, what exactly were they spending their replicator rations on? Toys?

Like that went down well with the rest of the crew who actually worked for their supper.

What's a "normal palate" for a species of people that like everything bland?

I just noticed that in the other series, replicated food is sneered at and you heard people complaining that it pales in comparison to the real thing. On Voyager, it's a prize and privilege. Poor Neelix.

What if they were able to recreate the transporter accident that created Tom Riker, and kept a copy of Tuvix around. Would he have still pined for Kes and Mrs. Tuvok (whatever her name is) and gotten in the way? Would he have been pals with Tuvok and Neelix, or would they resent the competition? Tuvix seemed to be a better cook and a better tactical officer.

I suppose we do like everything bland, but I presume it is something that does not include Leola Root to be something edible thats for sure.To me it seems to be like the type of food you would come across having to eat on one of those survival training courses

Those humans might be bland, but Neelix would have stayed the whole way to Earth if someone had explained to him Indian food.

David Lister, would probably call Neelix "soft".

^ Agreed. I think he'd get hooked on vindaloo, and take a break once in a while with tika massala. ;)

I was talking about Vulcans. :vulcan:

I'm African-American, Native-American & West Indian.
Bland isn't in my vocabulary.
Food so spicy, you see dead people.
