Ture Heroes of Season 6

Just rewatched the beginning of the war arc in Season 6. I was really amazed at who the true heroes of this arc were, the people that saved the Federation and Alpha Quadrant.

1. Morn - He got the message out to Sisko and Starfleet of the mine field being taken down, at possible risk of his own life. Not bad for a guy who has never said a word!

2. Rom - Came up with the designs for the self replicating mines. Which was the only reason the Dominion fleets never made it through to begin with. He risked his life to stay on DS9 when it was taken, and he risked it again to defy the Dominion which led to his capture.

3. Quark and Ziyal - took out two Jem Hadar and allowed the others to escape from the holding cells. Without them the weapons wouldnt have been shut down and even after Sisko had talked the Prophets into taking out the Dominion fleet, DS9 would have destroyed the Defiant.

It is so funny to me that these four arent the four that we would expect. Our heroes that we know and expect to be heroic didnt do a hole lot. Sure they risked their lives flying the Defiant through the lines and straight into the Wormhole....and Kira beat the hell out Damar.
It was cool to see new people that we didnt expect, save the day in this arc!

I agree with this. One of the reasons I thought the not-so-popular "Quark's laugh" after Quark is called a community leader that was included in that that really good fan made DS9 trailer was very poignant and fitting. Real shame in my view that subsequent versions of that trailer had that laugh removed due to popular feedback opinion.

The occupation and Season 6 is not the first or last time Quark and other unlikely heroes save the day either.

DS9 makes almost every character truly useful (other perhaps than the Dax characters which apparently could not be made useful), which takes a lot of gumption and in my view is not something that any of the other Trek shows come anywhere close to matching.

Quark was the true hero of DS9, period.

I agree with this analysis, I always thought it was fun that Morn got the information out. I just loved it when Sisko mentioned he knew the informant for years and was sure he could trust him. ;)

Oh... and they removed Quark's laugh from the Fan Trailer?

I know! I think its truly amazing at how useful everyone in DS9 was. Lets think how often did Harry Kim do something useful? Oh yah he shagged that girl once and got a space STD....oh and then he fell in love with a hologram who was really an alien....and then he crashed Voyager into an artic planet?
Hm....just one example of many...

I hated quark when the show started, When it was over I loved him!
During the war arc Quark was great, in the beginning he was saying that as far as occupations go this one isn't so bad. then throughout the arc he changes. I love it when Damar breaks it to him that the minefield is coming down. He shows up at kira's meeting drunk and scared, i thought it was a great scene. I love the scene in Sacrifice when Damar arrests Kira, Jake, and Leeta. After they are escorted out of the bar, the music rises and Quark comes from behind the staircase with that "oh shit" look on his face, it made the hairs stand up on my neck. I remember when i first saw that scene I yelled at the TV "its up to you, you little shit. Sweet!" Quark always came thru when he was needed.
Rom's character developement throughout the series was great and is a reason why I loved the show. Unimportant or overlooked people in an obscure or out of the way place become the most important people in the quadrant.

My thoughts exactly on Quark...he alone rehabilitated the entire comic aspect of the TNG Frengies and proved them to be ...well what exactly? Better and more believable characters of substance than we were use to. With thanks to the good writing given to Rom and Nog characters. That Schimerman actor is very very good...and to do that in all that makeup took a lot of self discipline. Mega props to him.
