So I've been dabbling with model kits on and off for awhile, but I've decided to actually sit down and do them. You may have seen some of my posts awhile back on an Enterprise C and Enterprise E which were under construction. Here's the updates:
Obviously, it's time for some spring cleaning. (You should see what it looks like under the table.)
First up, the long-running projects which are currently encountering major problems:
I got this together and puttied quite well. I left it for about a week to let the putty set before giving it another coat of primer. Unfortunately, it either fell apart or my roommates threw something onto my workbench and broke it. Since the saucer and hull sections came apart cleanly, I'm thinking it's the former. Obviously, more sanding is required before I can recement this.
The Enterprise-E is in better shape, though she's not with the other models at the moment, as I was considering attempting to Borgify her for last month's contest.
Ah, the good old Polar Lights 1:1000 1701. No way to screw this up, right?
Wrong. *sigh* Not sure what happened here. I'm going to have to pry (or Dremel) that off before I prime the whole model. Oh, and I'm never ever priming before construction ever again. It's made the Ent-C and 1701 construction far harder than it should have been.
It's not all bad news! This is a Revell AG 1/72 F-14A Tomcat (under construction). I was at my LHS on Saturday, and got it on a whim, expecting that I wouldn't get to it for several weeks at least. Then Admiral2 posted this month's art contest.
After coming down out of the clouds at realizing that I might be able to enter for once, I started working on it. The paints recommended, however, are Revell AG's brand, which required a Google search for a Revell to Testors (or Tamiya) conversion chart. Found one, got the paints, and went back to my LHS looking for them.
They didn't have a single one. Argh. (This is primarily an R/C car and airplane store, so I'll give them the benefit of the doubt, besides, they rock.) So I've gone as far as I can with the F-14 itself without assembling the cockpit (which obviously needs to be painted before I can't get to it anymore).
I'm also waiting for my LHS to track down the other AMT 1:2500 Enterprise set. If they can't find one, I'm probably going to end up using my Micro Machines 1701 in my eventual entry. (The PL Enterprise is in no condition to be used yet, and it's too big anyways.)
