TUC Blu-Ray remastered

Okay I am probably waaaay behind on this news as I bought all the movies years ago and have not searched out any remastered, director's cut, updated anythings. I was rather taken aback at the changes in TUC (my favorite of the TOS films). It seems there are changes at the end?! I hope someone will describe them for me. What caught my attention was the removal of the "I bet that Klingon bitch killed her father" line which always struck me as suitably gritty and real considering the long hostilities between the Federation and the Klingon empire. I never thought less of Scotty because of it, seems like something he would say outside of the sanitized confines of Trek.

So my questions.. what big changes were there and what's the deal with canon? Is it the final release that is always canon, does it override something that went before and is now deleted?

I realize this has probably been done to death but I did do a search on "bitch" and only found the change mentioned once in 4 pages so I figure I'm safe to post this.

That scene wasn't in the theatrical cut, which the Blu-ray presents. Every video release prior to that had extra footage. There are three cuts of the movie. The theatrical cut, the first video release and then the special edition DVD which was further changed. The Blu-ray is also the first home video release to present the actual theatrical aspect ratio.

Did you see ST VI on the big screen? The changes were in the VHS version: Operation: Retrieve explained, Scotty's "bitch" line, the Klingon assassin revealed to be Colonel West, etc. The first DVD version was the same as the VHS. The Director's Cut DVD added flashback images during the mindmeld, reminding viewers of who each conspirator was.

Who is affected by canon? Only the creators of licensed tie-ins. None of the additions or omissions to versions of ST VI really affect anything. It's highly unlikely a novel or comic will focus on Colonel West being revealed as a Klingon imposter, nor be worrying about whether Klingons have tear ducts or not.

The writers of "Flashback" chose to ignore several canonical ST VI plot elements to create their VOY episode (three weeks after Praxis instead of three months, Valtane's death, etc).

I just want to know the canon for myself. It's important to me to know whether it is canon that Klingons don't have tear ducts. Yes I realize this doesn't effect anything.

No I did not see it in the theater. I had an old video of it and then I bought a basic DVD of it some years back.

I haven't seen the version with the flashbacks, that's something I will keep my eye out for.

I find the theatrical version, released on Blu-ray, to best the best.

Isn't there a different take used in part of the mind-meld scene as well? I might be wrong but I remember it looking somewhat different. Personally I don't care for the flashback images, I think it breaks up the scene. The VHS version is the one I always knew, having been a bit too young to see it in the cinema.

I'm pretty sure the mind meld footage is the same (just intercut with the flashbacks) but in the Special Edition DVD, Nick Meyer used a close-up for McCoy's "And what do you think you've been doing?" line instead of keeping it in the wide shot.
