A dream-sequence like that actually happened in one of the TTN novels! Just don’t remember which.
The one which was part of the Typhon Pact mini-series? It's the only Titan novel I haven't read and can't remember such a sequence.
Several chapters in. Mighty busy wilh subplots. Did I miss something, but why is the SI head after Riker and Titan?
So Husnock had trilithium based munitions capable of creating a sub space shockwave that could destroy planets in-system, eh?
I've been curious if the whole "Hobus was really triggered by a weapon" thing might migrate over from STO at some point. This is def adding more evidence to the pile.
We knew from the last book someone wanted them spied upon but I think this is the first time we've found out who.
As to why that hasn't really been covered. She does seem quite unhinged about it.
I did remember that, but why Riker, unless it is really a test of the XO's inner beliefs?
Fallout from associations with Picard?
The Ajax in this book is most likely a brand new ship. According to Memory Beta, there was a Defiant-ClassUSS Ajax featured in Destiny. It was destroyed defending Deneva.
I still haven't been able to get my hands on this. What role did these ships play in the story? Also someone mentioned up thread that there is some type of expeditionary group? Can someone feed me some spoiler entrees while i wait for my novel main course?
I don't see the Apollo-class starships as the T'Pau and her sister ships. I don't even know how they put Apollo class in with the T'Pau type ships. And Memory-Beta isn't overly accurate when it comes to ship classes and everything to be honest.
I consider the Apollo class as the one lost at Deneva and this new Ajax is a newer starship.
A very very nice book, complementing both Takedown and Sight Unseen with the story of "Admiral Riker: Year One".. The more I think of it, these 3 novels seem more and more like an unofficial trilogy
Two thirds of the way through. There are a lot of new characters which sometimes is hard to keep track of but I am enjoying it. Nice work on Sarai but I would have liked more screen time for some of the other Titan crew members. Overall it’s a fun read though.
About half way through. Too many factions involved.
About a third of the way through, and I'm really enjoying this one! It's pretty plot driven, but it feels like everyone (that is mentioned) is getting at least something interesting to do.
Sidenote: As a Hayao Miyazaki fan, I enjoy that the Nausicaans call themselves the Patriots of the Wind in reference to Miyazaki's film Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind. I also got a kick out of 'To make Nausicaans great again.'
Those are callbacks to two of my previous Star Trek novels. Their association to the Four Winds was established in my DS9 novel Warpath, and their goal to remake their lost culture was necessitated by the incineration of their homeworld by the Borg in my Destiny trilogy.
Now that you mention it, I vaguely remember that mention in Warpath, but I wasn't a poster at the time and I had no one to point it out to. But originally, was the Miyazaki film the inspiration in naming the Four Winds?
It was, indeed. Well spotted.
And this might also be of some interest to Steve Roby and other local Trekkers...from page 295 (trying to minimize any premature surprises for other readers):
I suspect that this refers to a Danube-class runabout of that name...?
Finished it. Basically left me unsatisfied.
Being polite doesn't come into it - these review threads are designed expressly to allow people who have read the book to discuss them without worrying about spoilers for anyone else.
All absolutely true. The nice big red SPOILER tag in the thread title is there for a reason - THERE WILL BE SPOILERS TO THE BOOK BEING DISCUSSED
A very wise choice, and one other people should follow if they're worried about seeing spoilers.
I personally feel that there are not enough spoilers in this thread. It's going to be a while before i can get my hands on this one. None of my local bookshops have it so I'm probably going to order online. Spoil away people, I want to know details! Whats the deal with the Ajax, Canterbury and Wasp? What all this about an expeditionary group? Is Titan still in the Alpha Quadrant Frontier Zone? Who is after the Husnock technology?
