T'Ryssa Chen fan club

She shows up for the first time in GREATER THAN THE SUM TNG book >) Picard's contact specialist

Who is T'Ryssa Chen again?

Young, Half-Human, Half-Vulcan officer who Picard ends up taking on as a Contact specialist and/or professional project (in Greater Than The Sum, just prior to the Destiny trilogy. She's been on board ever since). She goes out of her way to be as un-Vulcan as possible in a form of tongue-out protest against Vulcan expectations, playing up her quirks (which are many). Basically, she's to frivolity and humour what Shran or early Archer are to volatility; rebelling against the Vulcans by taking the qualities they disapprove of up to eleven. Picard's been mentoring her to try and ease her into Starfleet discipline so she can fulfil her potential, and to see how many ulcers she gives him. Not exactly a model officer, but she has a lot of promise. She was in a relationship with Taurik for a while; recently they broke it off and decided to be just friends. Before that she was with Rennan Konya, from SCE. She makes very bad puns.

And, yes, I really like the character too, and I'm always happy to see more of her. :) She's fun, deliberately so, of course.

Count me in to this club! When she came out as a character, it sometimes felt like we got a little much of her (understandably so; we might call it "Ezri Dax syndrome") but I think she has settled in wonderfully. Of all the Lit-only TNG characters, I definitely feel most invested in her. (Well, I mean, depends on how we define the addition to the cast that we got in The Persistence of Memory, but still.)

She's interesting, compelling, and she fits in really well with the existing cast. She's a great foil for Worf, I see her getting along with Geordi really well, and I absolutely love putting her opposite Picard. What a great way to bring his character to new places! She's shown clear growth from Greater Than The Sum through now, but it's also plausible and it's not overdone.

If I had the money and persuasive power to do it, I would put together a short film (5-10 minutes) starring Sir Patrick Stewart as Picard opposite an ideal actor for Chen, just interacting as Picard and Chen. That would be amazing.

I love the character. She is one of the few who has actually grown while still holding on to what she was.
Her actions in Silent Weapons, where she showed she was still the prank-pulling youngster, but also someone who could take charge of the bridge and talk down a higer ranking officer from making a big mistake....
Yeah, more of her please. :D

I've only read her in about 4-5 books so far, but I love her. A great alternate version of Spock.

I loved that scene and how she was able to fool Captain Frasier Crane!

And when she shows up naked in front of some Starfleet officers " hey guys, do you know a mid-western guy who goes for name of Adam?" cracked me out lmao .. it was brilliant! Or when Picard welcoming her back from the Kinshaya mission ends up carrying her bag lol

T'Ryssa is probably my favorite of the TNG lit characters.

I have trouble remembering many of the Lit Only TNG crew however as I'm visual and they only exist in my head.

More pictures of crew guys.

Same here. I liked Jasminder a lot, then "Silent Weapons" rolled around, and Elfiki just hasn't really had enough development for me to form much of an opinion one way or another.

T'Ryssa works well. As the original crew is increasingly a group of formal old guys, the variety is appreciated.

Grrr don't remind me of poor Jasminder!!!! You have no idea what a jaw drop i had when she ... well no spoilers you know what i mean . Whyy? Poor Worf had 3 women and all of them are gone for good. Why he can't be happy finally?

I really like Chen's interaction with Picard. It is nice to see him investing in someone and teaching them. They may be polar opposites, but I think it's a beautiful mentorship and hope it continues in the books.
