Trying again to get into Farscape

That's the one where he appears to be on Earth again and things get trippy, right? I love that one.

Won't get fooled again was the first Farscape episode I ever saw. At the time it was so original that I stayed with the series and now it's my favorite sci fi series of all time.

I love the list of chargers that gets listed off and then he totals it out.

One of my favorite moments in Farscape.

Looks like my previous thread got garbage collected as I went a few weeks without watching it.

The Locket:

This episode is kind of interesting, one of those episodes that they use future alternate timelines to tease current tensions. It was a little too obvious too early they were going to reset button the whole thing, but they did a good job with the episode.

Grade: B

The Ugly Truth:

Farscape Rashomon! They did a great job with this episode which tied together a lot of the major threads, though again it was a bit obvious Stark was going to be the one to be accused. I guess it's not the kind of show which really hides what it's thinking and where it's going. But the episode made me curious about what really happened, did a good job teasing the mystery in a way appropriate for each character and had a good payoff.

Grade: A

A Clockwork Nebari:

I have mixed feelings about this episode. I feel like they knew they wanted to have Chiara confronted with the people chasing her but didn't know how the hell to do it, so they just kind of came up with a reason for Crichton not to be affected then ran with the stream of consciousness. Not a bad episode, but not that good an episode either.

Grade: B-

Liars, Guns and Money

This episode I found a little disappointing given how many threads it tied together. It brings in characters from several different episodes, it advances the Jathy and Scorpious storylines, it deals a major injury to Moya. Somehow it seemed underwhelming and by the numbers. Crichton is finally captured by Scorpious but in the end the status quo is maintained with his chip and we're left in pretty much the same situation between the two as we were before the episode. Then there's those wierd unnecessary sex scenes with the blue woman who likes eating eyes. That character was a complete misfire to me. And they kind of sidestepped the emotional consequences of what others should perceive as Crichton submitting to torture to save Jathy.

Grade: C

"Liars, Guns, and Money" was the first series of episodes I ever watched. I thought it was weird, but it was enough to get me watching more.

The head chip subplot was the only thing I hated about the show. I found it annoying, and it went on way too long.

In retrospect, I think the chip storyline went to some cool places, especially near the end. They probably could have done without it, but it did give some cool moments before it was over.

I'm in the middle of a first-time Farscape viewing with a friend wherein we're doing 3 episodes/night. "Whacky" is by far the best adjective I can think of for the show, and I have to admit that every time I think they've pushed things as far in a given direction as they can they manage to push them just a little bit more.

I think "DNA Mad Scientist" was the first episode I really took notice of; if nothing else the alien design in that one was quite memorable to me. Oh, and there was the part with the arm.

I like watching the show well enough, but I have to admit I'm having trouble becoming overly attached to it. It does a lot of fairly daring things (characters who aren't necessarily likeable, some significant arc development), but I agree that it feels inconsistent, and the ratio of great to not-great episodes isn't as high as I'd prefer.

Still, I think my friend and I will make it to the end. The great episodes really are great, and I'm impressed by how many commentaries we get with the show.

Die Me, Dichotomy:

This is one of those episodes where, due to knowledge I already have, it's hard to separate myself out and imagine how an episode would impact me without that knowledge. I'm pretty sure, Aeryn gets revived. But I have no way to know whether that would be obvious to a viewer watching it as it aired, whether viewers actually thought the character was dead. And that knowledge emotionally blunts the death scene a little bit.

I enjoyed that surgery scene. "American politics? Yeah, get rid of it. Puppies? Try to keep it." It kind of makes you play the hypothetical game, what memories would I not be willing to get rid of, even if it meant risking my death? Though it was kind of annoying when it just ended with Scorpious showing up. Enough with Scorpious! Sometimes the main threat needs to appear less frequently to stay interesting.

Scorpius is by far my favorite villain of all time, and he is obsessed with Crichton. It would be out of character for him to stop showing up.

If you don't like Scorpius, you might as well just stop watching now. He becomes a bigger and bigger part of the show as it goes on.

I'm in the middle of the season 3 premiere now. One small observation I don't want to wait for.

She's dying of a severe bacterial infection and they save her with mouth to mouth resuscitation. WTF?!

Scorpious doesn't single-handedly ruin the show, but he spends too much time on the borderline of being a straight up mustache-twirler.

Yeah, I always thought that was weird.

I'm just gonna go ahead pretend that Zhaan exhales antibiotics. :p

He is brought to the foreground through the back half of the show, and he becomes a much more developed character.

Scorpius becomes a fully realized villain towards the end. We learn more about how he formed his point of view and why he is obsessed with the Scarrans, which leads into his dogged pursuit of John and his access to wormhole technology. He is really a driving force throughout the show.
