Tron: Ares

I am saying or asking this sincerely - what is there that is missing? I hear this complaint for almost every big movie these days. Often from fans who must be living in a bubble isolated from all the marketing…

In fairness to you or anyone else who ever says that - most movie marketing is online these days. Do it’s kind of targeted. Easy to miss stuff. But I only am basing that on what I hear others say. I see marketing for movies I will never see. I am seeing stuff all the time for Ares. New posters, clips, cast is on promotional tour. Jeff Bridges and Jodie Turner Smith are both guests on Jimmy Kimmel this week on different.

I am not signaling you out on this. I see this complaint with every movie in recent years. Best answer is marketing has changed. Just speculation but I think the studios have re assessed how they spend their money. The years of dumping loads of it everywhere rarely payed off. So it’s more strategic now.
I truly don't know what people want..
I've seen ads on various social media, running on YouTube and a radio and.

I'm not watching TV or streaming currently so can't speak to that. But I see ads.

In general, there does feel to be less exposure to advertising in the last several years, and I think that is because people have chosen to pay for ad-free services, and watch less live TV. Everything is so much more localized now too, so there's more of a chance to miss things. But the downside is that it's harder to build up hype towards something.

In my case, I haven't even seen much online about it beyond this thread.

Lots of people still watch live sports. I think I only saw one ad during the Sunday night game last night. I haven't seen anything during the MLB Playoffs.

Yeah, I don't watch live sports, so that right there is one less vector. I do still watch live TV though, mostly in the mornings, and mostly ABC, and strangely enough even while Disney owns ABC, I've yet to see anything on their channel advertising it. It's so strange.

I watched the Brewers vs Cubs game on Saturday through HBOMAX. Very limited ads and only one I remember is Superman being on HBOMAX. How are you watching the playoffs? Obviously I was not going to see ads for Disney movie on Warner Discovery owned channel. That is a huge factor in what ads we see.

FYI the big premiere is at the Chinese Theatre in Hollywood Tonight. It’s happened before that returning performers are revealed by them attending these events. Frank Oz attending The Last Jedi was big hint that Yoda was probably in the movie.

Also the press and review embargo lifts tomorrow. Expect to see a lot of info and spoilers. Though often someone on Reddit decides to take every known plot detail and fill in the rest with made up info and pass it of as real plot synopsis. So expect a lot of bs mixed with real leaks and spoilers soon.

I've been watching on Directv Stream: Fox, FS1, and TBS.

I usually see movies alone. I know there is a bit of social stigma to that. But if you can get over it it’s very liberating. You can see whatever you want. Really you do not talk to people during the movie, so it does not matter. I go to see other people’s reactions online. I got my drivers license much later than I should have - age 28. Even though I am 47 now I am still using the freedom to catch up on those lost years.

If it makes anyone feel better, I see a lot of other people going alone. Especially during daytime showings on weekends. I plan to see this first showing I can on Thursday night after work. It’s 3D. Normally not big fan of 3D but Legacy looked great. Big choice is if I want to see it first time that way. Also this was shot for IMAX. Closest is in Milwaukee an hour drive away. Last time I did that, maybe first, was for Superman this summer. If I like Ares enough maybe I will do that on Saturday or Sunday of opening weekend. Plus I got free passes to Milwaukee Public Museum. Make the most of my trip.
My issue with going alone is that I have social anxiety and I'm possibly on the autism spectrum, and I really have trouble with being around a lot of strangers by myself, usually I can handle better if I have my mom or someone else I'm comfortable with, but it's hard on my own. I've done it before, with Catching Fire, and The Batman, and once the movie started it wasn't so bad, but buying my ticket, and waiting for the movie to start, and then leaving the theater were hard for me.

I've been seeing tons of adds on TV, and I think I possibly heard at least one on Spotify, and I've seen lots of banner adds online.

I haven't watched ABC much lately, but I'm pretty sure I've seen commercials for it on FOX, and possibly on Nation Geographic.
