Tron 3 is coming (and Garrett Hedlund is confirmed to come back)

Bummer. :( I can kind of understand Disney's reasoning in that Legacy wasn't exactly a monster hit domestically, and the fact it was still being written and directed by the same people might have been an issue.

But still, this is a world I was really looking forward to seeing again, and I was really curious to see where they took Olivia Wilde's character.

Me too. Was really hoping we'd see more of the world that Flynn created. I guess we'll never know now. Hell, they still haven't put Tron Uprising out on bluray or DVD. It always seemed like they intentionally killed that one by putting it on so late on XD that nobody knew it existed outside a handful of diehard fans who knew to DVR it. Fuckin' Disney!

I was watching AMC Movie Talk awhile ago, and the guy on there said Tron Legacy was considered a disappointment to Disney because of the money it didn't make. They were expecting it to be a $700 million dollar movie and it only did $450 million.

With the exception of Disney's Princess movie remakes and now the Marvel movies; most of their live action endeavors have been pretty crappy or underwhelming.

Tomorrowland
Maleficent (although this was a financial success)
Into The Woods
The Lone Ranger
Oz The Great and Powerful
John Carter
Prince of Persia
The Pirates of the Caribbean sequels (all financially successful yes, but each sequel is riddled with problems)
Tron Legacy (under preformed)

Maybe they'll cancel National Treasure 3 too.

The Pirates of the Caribbean is a multi-billion franchise, which justifies to the bean counters the rationale for funding a fifth movie.

I liked how the TRON franchise ended, with the son taking the woman on an exploration of this new world she found herself.

John Carter was a pretty awesome movie, aside from a weak and cluttered opening. But it had a lousy and uninformative title, and it was poorly promoted and quickly buried because it was an orphan of the previous executive regime.

I haven't seen most of the others on that list, and the few I have seen didn't impress me much. I was hopeful for Tomorrowland, since the idea of Brad Bird doing a film that isn't brilliant is hard to conceive, but the reviews have been disappointing (and really, the intrinsic, self-promoting Disney-ness of it was always a turnoff for me). I guess letting Damon Lindelof write the script can hurt any movie. I'll probably see it eventually, but I'm not excited about it.

Hmm, looking at that list I'd say Legacy is easily the best thing on there.

Right?!

I'd rather see Tron 3, than another live action adaptation of a film Disney has already done. *cough* Alice in Wonderland, Sleeping Beauty/Maleficent, Through the Looking Glass, Beauty and the Beast and Mulan *cough*. Although, a live action Aladdin film would be right on time.

The next news you will be hearing is a reboot.
That's what I think is ultimately going to happen. As it currently stands, the Tron franchise probably skews more towards adults. I think it's going to be totally remade from scratch to be more friendly or inclusive to kids too.

Then again, Disney has another franchise set long ago in another galaxy that's already there...

Disney did have a Tron animated series. It ran for 1 season after the Legacy came out.

I doubt we'll see a Tron reboot. Disney has their princess/fairy tale movie remakes, Marvel, Star Wars and Indiana Jones properties to tow the line for them.

I know. I saw it. I also saw the first two Tron movies too. They were all set in the same universe.

I think we will, but it won't be any time soon.

That's too bad they seem to have pulled the blog.

I can't say I'm going to watch any of the animated--->live action films that seems to be making up the non-Marvel non-Star Wars Disney slate.

I'm very disappointed by this news. I suppose I shouldn't be surprised by thus considering how poorly they treated Tron: Uprising, which despite its weird animation that took time getting accustomed to, was a good show that had the potential to be great.

This news sucks, but it also means we're not getting another Daft Punk soundtrack. The Tron Legacy soundtrack was the best thing about that movie.
