Trivial questions about Stargate

I'd forgotten about that, thanks.

You'd think if instant death was the result they'd have some sort of warning on it, or make the back side of the gate look noticably different to the front. IIRC the only difference is the lack of hieroglyphs.

I guess the Ancients never had to deal with lawsuits from furious families of idiots who stepped through the wrong side.

Well, usally, the stairs leading up to it are only on one side. ;) And there's got to be a note like "only enter on the kawoosh side" or something. ;)

What I don't get is how the Kawoosh doesn't destroy the iris when it normally absolutely destroys everything in its path.

Or maybe they did. The Atlantis gates are visibly different when there's an incoming versus an outgoing connection (and on outgoing ones, you can see the exact address, as well, another safety bonus).

If the Kawoosh (what a scientific term :)) is composed of matter of some sort than the iris would prevent it from integrating, I suppose...

they explained that the iris is so close to the wormhole that the kawoosh doesn't even have time to materialize, so it isn't there in the first place with the iris closed... though we do hear the sound effect, heh, in reality we shouldn't hear it at all since it isn't there with the iris closed

Actually, most of the time they use an abbreviated version of the "opening" sound effect when the iris is closed that doesn't have the woosh. Sometimes they forget, and the Atlantis gate's shield still allows a kawoosh, but they thought that one through.
