Trip & T'Pol: The Good That They Do

Jinx I thought Trip was remembering their conversation in breaking the Ice. it sure seemed like it to me anyway.

going to home for a second the more i am looking at stuff the more it is seems she took trip home to see how her mother would react to trip . and if she didnt like tles reaction she was mostly going to ignore it.
she told her if she accpted the commission she wouldnt be comimg home for a long time.. guess why.
Yes, even if their relationship had been contentious in the past, I think on some level, T'Pol still wanted her mother's approval.

After everything that happened in the Expanse, I think T'Pol's main reason for going home was perhaps to reconnect and strengthen ties with her mother, especially since she was considering extending her time with Starfleet. And since Trip was becoming one of the most important individuals in her new life (both personally and professionally), I think she was interested in her mother's reaction but at the same time apprehensive.

Going back to comments from the "Home" thread, though, I agree that T'Pol invited Trip to Vulcan because she wanted him to be there -- in a positive sense. The nature of their relationship had changed towards the end of S3, with T'Pol finally taking a few steps forward and asking for Trip's help ("Countdown") and also seemingly acknowledging the "intimacy" of their relationship by sharing her age with him in "Zero Hour." With that in mind, I think T'Pol wanted Trip with her on Vulcan because she thought he could support her in some potentially difficult interactions with T'Les and also because it would give them a chance to spend some time together and potentially take a few more steps forward in defining their relationship.

And I do think both of them viewed their relationship at that point as more than friendship. Trip's response to T'Les's assertion that he was romantically involved with T'Pol was very telling -- "I got the impression T'Pol wasn't going to say anything to you" -- since it was basically an admission that they were involved and also an acknowledgement that they had planned to keep that info from T'Les. (If they weren't romantically involved why would there be anything to conceal from T'Les?) ;)

Anyway, we know how it turned out. Eventually T'Les did seem to gain respect and appreciation for Trip, but T'Pol still ended up marrying Koss. :(

The neuro-pressure scene in "Similitude" is my favorite of the bunch too, mostly because of that comfort level that it projects. Again, it's so natural and gentle a scene, even with that little bit of innuendo at the end. I just like the way they are conversing while they seemingly are doing stuff that is probably coming second nature to them at this point.
OK, I think I'm coming back to "Similitude" as the best of the n-p scenes when I was starting to lean towards "Raijin." I think the Similitude scene is the one that best shows the level of comfort that had developed between them. "Similitude" was the second episode I saw after having quit watching in S2, so you can imagine my reaction when I saw that first scene....  :)

tothebridge, I'm really enjoying your screencaps a lot. Thank you for all the time you're taking to make them and post them for us.
You're welcome. :) Glad you enjoy them. Like I said, though, I may be grabbing a few of the lovely ones you've done already for the T/T heavy episodes coming up -- I don't think I'll have time to cap all the scenes/moments, but I'd rather have too much than too little to choose from. :)

I was challenged for time this week but did manage to get a few caps from Monday's block with my favorites being from "Impulse." I'll try to get those up tonight or tomorrow. In the meantime, here's one of those standing together poses from "The Shipment." One of the nice things about S3 is how much Trip and T'Pol actually get to work together, especially on solving problems.

In this one, Trip's just helping T'Pol send something down to Archer on the surface. (Well, he did carry the case and place it on the transporter pad, so I guess that counts as helping.)

A few screencaps from “Impulse” – a bit later than expected. I ended up going to see Leonard Nimoy at the Starfest Convention yesterday, so the timing changed. :)

Anyway, these are from the T/T scene where T’Pol finds out that movie night is being reinstated. It’s a brief scene, but I enjoy it because of the expressions and the different layers of context. Trip and T’Pol are supposed to be working, so on the surface, they adopt a professional posture -- looking at the screen, etc., while at the same time, interacting at a more personal level.

As they both stare at the Xindi starcharts, Trip casually asks T’Pol if she has plans for Tuesday night.
Impulse_1_4web.jpg

T’Pol shoots him a sideways glance, while Trip nonchalantly looks down.
Impulse_2_4web.jpg

Now it’s T’Pol’s turn to look downward as she says, “Not at the moment.”
Impulse_3_4web.jpg

Trip sees an opening, and as they continue looking at the screen (the picture of professionalism), he spells out the details. “Mess hall, 1900 hours.”
Impulse_5_4web.jpg

T’Pol’s expression shifts as she starts to get an inkling of what Trip is talking about….
Impulse_6_4web.jpg

“Movie night?” she asks. (Hmm….She looks a bit disappointed….Maybe she was hoping for a book reading invitation instead?)
Impulse_7_4web.jpg

Trip quips, “Back by popular demand.”
Impulse_8_4web.jpg

And as he grins while gazing ahead again, T’Pol gives him the “look.”
Impulse_9_4web.jpg

As Trip glances her way again, T’Pol closes her eyes briefly, no doubt wondering why she endures (and responds) to Mr. Tucker’s teasing….

i so loved their scenes. he flirts in a such geeky way. :)

i love those Impulse pictures Tothebridge . :) You captured some great Trip & T'Pol expressions in that scene thanks for posting them.

Thanks for posting those Impulse caps, ttb. The way he smiles at her is just so sweet *happy sigh*. T'Pol's dream at the end of that episode was a nice way to tie it as well...

^^ I watched a bit of the text commentary during my viewing of the episode last week, and it mentioned that the dream at the end was added in and not originally part of the episode. The episode ran short due to the tight editing, so this scene was added in to compensate. Luckily for them they had made the movie night reference earlier and they had something to add in naturally.

I love that flirty conversation in the beginning though. If I didn't know any better I'd think he was asking her out. ;) And their expressions are fun as usual.

I liked the Flirty conversation that was a fun scene. I liked the text commentary about how they shot the scenes with the Vulcan zombies they had 15 stuntpeople and the photography tricks they used to look like there were more Vulcan crewmwmbers. Also the part about the dream sequence being added. I also like the Northstar directors commentary it makes the shows more interesting to watch. You watch for things in certain scenes that you wouldn't notice unless you watch it closely.I'm looking forward to watching Similtude again tonight. :)

Oh, I didn't know that.... So, was the movie night segment of the "dream" actually an extra (i.e., previously cut) scene that originally had been shot for "Impulse" or another preceding episode?

Yep, cute expressions. :) What's funny is the way that T'Pol says "Not at the moment," as she looks downward almost makes it seem that she thinks Trip is trying to ask her out. I suspect that wasn't really the intent of the scene, but it was one of their more flirty, bantering moments.

:) It was great! I hadn't planned to go, but a few hours opened up in my schedule and I just hopped over at the last minute. Didn't get there in time for any photo ops and couldn't stay for autographs, but I did get to his Q&A (and also the one for Oded Fehr who had the preceding session).

I didn't quite know what to expect since I hadn't seen him in a live, onstage session before, but Leonard Nimoy has a wonderful presence. He stood and/or walked back and forth across the stage the entire time and was very relaxed and engaged with the audience. He shared a number of amusing anecdotes and handled all the questions very graciously and smoothly -- even a few somewhat odd ones.

The topic of his involvement in STXI came up a couple of times, and he basically said that if Paramount thought he could make a meaningful and worthwhile contribution that he'd be happy to do it, they know where to find him...etc. Also someone asked if he had some type of approval over recasting of Spock, and he indicated that he thought that something like that might've been written into one of his movie contracts but he needed to have someone check into it.

Anyway, I was glad I went even if for a few hours -- maybe I'll get another opportunity if I ever get to the Vegas con.

A few more caps from the movie night dream scene in "Impulse." Basically, Trip and Phlox are annoyingly discussing the movie while it's running, and T'Pol suggests that they watch (instead of talking) to find out what happens.

Trip says that part of the fun of a mystery is trying to solve it before it ends using logic and says that T'Pol of all people should appreciate that.
Impulse_12_4web.jpg

Not to be outdone, T'Pol replies, "Then use logic more quietly."
impulse_13_4web.jpg

Trip's response.... He has that "Oh no she didn't..." look whereas T'Pol seems satisfied to have gotten the last word this time.
impulse_14_4web.jpg

Looking forward to tonight's block, especially North Star and Similitude.

Yup, my feelings exactly... :D She didn't dismiss him or the question at all. She left the door open, and when she turns to him and asks, "Movie night?" I love the smile Trip flashes her... And then he looks down again, and up for another second to look at her... Ah, those two kids... :guffaw:

I had to laugh. Trip's expression really is "Oh no she didn't!" That's great!
It is a great reaction, tho' I was surprised to discover later that she was actually dreaming all this... would T'Pol really dream of Trip making such a hilarious face?

oh i could see her dreaming that she not only got in the last word but did so that trip was speechless..

^^Yeah, Trip's expression is really exaggerated in that shot, but assuming T'Pol's dream is some sort of mixture of reality and trellium-induced distortions, I could see her dreaming something like that. The facial expresiveness and teasing are elements that she would probably associate with Trip, so I could see them playing out in her dream in an exaggerated way.

From the most recent SciFi Monday...lots of lovely T/T caps for the evening, so everyone post your favorites. :) A few of mine....

Not much T/T in "Carpenter Street" but at least one for the 'Standing Together' collection.

"North Star" had a number of nice moments. These shots are from the scene during which Trip and T'Pol meet with Archer at the site of Bethany's "illegal" school.

Trip wants to know if Archer is going back with them and Archer says that he doesn't want to miss his first day of school (i.e., he's staying behind to sit in on Bethany's school session).
