Trills and Dax?

In DS9's “Trials and Tribble-ations”, Jadzia mentions that one of the Dax symbiont’s previous hosts, Emony, met McCoy at a gymnastics competition at the University of Mississippi. I guess this took place before McCoy entered Starflleet, and could have happened in the Abramsverse too since this likely occurred before McCoy entered the academy and met Kirk. Jadzia gave the impression that McCoy wasn’t a full-fledge doctor at the time Emony met him. He could have been a medical school student at the time. Dax, or another Trill could make a cameo in Trek XII too since Trills are likely a known species by the Federation. They’re could even be trills in Starfleet.

The encounter was told in The Lives of Dax, as I recall.

And while the Federation had contact with the Trill, it was not generally known that they were a joined species until much later.

It's never flat out said if it is or not. I seem to recall there was a debate about this a few months ago. I know on Memory Alpha they're listed as a Probable Member.
