Trick or Treaters

I'm not really expecting to see any trick-or-treaters. We live on a thoroughfare and even though there are now stop signs at every cross street, there are still no sidewalks and the street isn't very well-lit in places. Most of the trick-or-treating around here these days is conducted as a cooperative event between families in a limited area, preferably in a well-lighted cul-de-sac or on a block without much evening vehicle traffic.

I realize that, but I still think it's a lame "rule." I don't like the idea of Trick or Treating in the daylight.

I would imagine that parents do like the idea of trick-or-treating in the daylight / dusk hours, though.

I put out of Jack O Lantern for the first time in years, but so far no one. Of course, the evening is young.

I've seen a few kids running around the area in costumes, but that's not surprising, since the City of Madison's "recommended" trick-or-treating time is 4 - 8 p.m. today.

Some years I have fun and even dress up for the trick-or-treaters who may or may not show up. This year I'm not up to opening the door for strangers, even ones escorting three-foot-tall gremlins and pumpkins, so my blinds are all closed tight. Kreacher is hibernating.

I am kind of suprised that I have never heard of child molesters taking advantage of Halloween. I mean kids come to your house. At night. To totally unknown strangers.

^It would be harder, since they usually have an adult or two waiting for them out front. They'd notice something amiss if the child takes too long to come in, look shaken up after the said house, or arrives with semen on the ladybug costume.

Our door only got knocked on once tonight, I suspect by the kids who live next door but one. Unlike previous years we didn't answer because we'd forgotten to buy sweeties this year. Trick or treating isn't really considered a polite activity around here so there isn't much of it going on.

didnt have and trick and treaters and probably wont come across any either. pretty sure RFID keys, a fireproof steel door and bulletproof glass is gonna keep em out of the building. kinda feel sorry for em, but what can you do.

well, thats sweden for ya'll.

I'm expecting the majority of them to hit my house in the next hour or so, but it's been interesting so far. The kids who have stopped at my house report that one of my neighbors is giving out toothbrushes and toothpaste. I gave them extra candy to make up for it.

The other interesting sight was the guy drinking beer while taking kids door to door right around 4 PM. :wtf:

Well, we got about 50 kids. Not bad this year, and toward the end I was handing out 6-7 pieces of candy, as it's not like I can eat it, and I'm happy to say lots more polite manners this year. Every kid, young and old (that could talk) said "Trick or Treat" and then "Thank you". Nice. :D

None at all, as predicted. :D My car seems to have survived un-egged as well. A good year all round.

There have been practically NO KIDS out this year. We usually don't get too many....20-30 at the most. I think we had 10 all day into tonight.

We haven't had any in years. I would hope part of this is the changing demographics of the kids and only going to people you know not strangers. However, I think it is more a sign of how the holiday is changing in America. When I was a kid, if you were 13 or 14, you were too old to trick or treat. The day was exclusively for youngsters to have fun and pig out. Now however, I think the commercialism has completely changed Halloween into an adult holiday because that is where to big bucks are. Adults are the ones by crazy outdoor displays and slutty costumes and partying. I don't think Halloween is about kids anymore at all.

I'd like to have more lawn displays than I do, but I really don't understand the hysteria of buying dumb stuff. When I was a kid, we made everything we put outside. It was about celebrating the end of the farming seasons and enjoying the fruits of our labor through to Christmas. I feel bad that holidays are just excuses for people to party and do stupid things without any meaning to anything anymore. Look how Thanksgiving gets screwed because it isn't' a holiday a lot of money can be made from.

I am an avid Halloween and Harvest spookfest horror person throughout the year, but I am also a firm believer in the heart of Christmas. So it really gets me when you can be pushing the sale of both side by side- and since August no less! That tells me you only believe in money, not what either holiday stands for. I think that's just sad.

And it means not seeing any goofy little kids and giving them candy!

None as of 9pm, despite all the effort put into the Jack O Lantern this year. :(

Thank Jesus!

It never was. Kids got to have fun on Beggar's Night, but Halloween itself was never just for kids.

Hey, life's a bitch. You get as much enjoyment out of it as you can while you can. That doesn't mean going through life wasted and being a leech, but between paying the bills, dealing with unfeeling, uncaring jobs, and watching your years advance with little to show for it, there has to be moments where you can wear a slutty costume and eat a shitload of candy and not feel bad about it.

I saw lots of goofy little kids this year, and gave out tons and tons of candy. :D

A lot of parents are taking their kids to events...like at churches or the mall instead of letting them go out and trick or treat.
