Tribbles!

Awesome

Who wants to see a Tribble in this movie?

I mean, not as a plot device, and they don't even have to acknowledge it, but it would be kind of a neat little nod if we could see some Tribbles in the background somewhere.

That said, I know we don't want to have cameos of every little piece of Trek canon everywhere in the movie (well, most of us don't want that anyway), but what small things would you like to see (if only in passing) sprinked throughout the film?

ALSO, let's try to keep characters out of this. Let's focus on little visual treats that we might not even notice if we're not looking.

Considering tribbles weren't seen in the Trekverse until "The Trouble with Tribbles"..I think not.

Now the USS Republic, the USS Farragut, some of Kirk's old girlfriends, mid 23rd century Earth..lots of goodness still there...

Just because we didn't do anything with Tribbles doesn't mean they didn't exist. Hell, they could even have Tribble-shaped pillows on the beds, for all I care.

How bout a few tribbles in a cage at a market on some alien world that Our Heroes don't even notice? Cuz later it's pretty clear that they didn't know what a tribble was previous to Cyrano Jones' introducing the little monsters. Doesn't mean WE can't notice. ;)

^Exactly! I'm just talking background stuff. The characters don't even need to be aware of it, but it would be neat to set the scene.

What would be really funny is if later in the scene they walk past the same cage and it's got twice as many Tribbles in it.

Only if they pay David Gerrold for useing his creations ;)

* See other Trek writers can get on on this action, yes ? *

It'd be neat, but I'll probably end up rolling my eyes for 2 hours if this film is full of continuity porn.

So, like, tribbles being fed tranya and colored food cubes by little gold guys in fezzes while a green Orion woman dances provocatively around a Romulan cloaking device?

As long as the Orion woman is trying to figure out what a "brain" is, I'm all for it.

Or if they're outside during some inclement weather...

"Rain and rain. What is rain?"

Kurtzman, Orci, and Abrams have already said there will be small "Easter Eggs" for the fans. Your idea sounds like that sort of thing.

Actually I'd like to see Kirk's glasses he pawned in TVH somehow, perhaps in a shop in SF Cadet Kirk is buying something, see's them and thinks, "Huh! If I ever need vision correction I'd never go that route!"

Um... he was given those in STII.

Woops.

Yeah, McCoy gave them to him in the 23rd century because he was alergic to retnox 5 or whatever but he pawned them in SF in the latter half of the 20th century. Wibbly wobbly you know...

Maybe a scene like this.

Location: Transporter room

Kirk: Scotty, did you beam those supplies over to the Farragut?
Scotty: Aye sir, I transported the whole kit'n kaboodle into their engine room, where they'll be nay tribble at all!
Kirk: Excuse me?
Scotty: I said, I transported the whole kit'n kaboodle into their engine room, where they'll be nay tribble at all!
Kirk: I'm sorry, I don't follow ...
Scotty: Never mind...

Cheers!
