Trek's most embarrassing moments

Janeway and Tom Paris turning into Lizards. After Tom broke the warp 10 barrier.:cardie: Harry Kim's Zombie girlfriend that returned to Voyager.Enterprise Bounty and Night in Sick bay and Raajinn. Tng Most of the shows with Alexander. He was an annoying character.

What do you think were Star Trek's top most cringe-worthy moments ... the things that just made you embarrassed for everyone who was unfortunate enough to be associated with them in any way?

DS9:Rivals: The law of probability is modified, as if it were a physical law that could be modified.

VOY:Tuvix (I especially like how Tuvix appears complete with a striped shirt...)

TNG:Rascals (although I did think the young Ro Laren was awfully cute)

TNG:Unnatural Selection (A person's DNA doesn't change through their life in the way it's depicted)

TOS:Mudd's Women (magic colored gelatin even styles your hair!)

TOS: Pretty much any time a computer speaks.

TOS: Any time Kirk verbally convinces a machine to self-destruct

TOS: Any time a female is introduced, and then there's a close-up of her against a pastel background, a musical note plays, and one or more men ogle her.

VOY: Threshold

TOS: Spock's Brain

TOS, Ent: Any time there's a Nazi-themed, Roman-themed, or Western-themed planet...

I actually think some of your list are GOOD things. I love when TOS babes are in the pastel background..I love when Kirk gets computers to blow up...and I love the Nazi-themed, roman themed, western themed planets TOS ventured too...I love MUDDS WOMEN, and I actually liked RASCALS. I can't wait for you list what you DID like about star trek...that may be more interesting...

#1: "Plato's Stepchildren", TOS: I hate this episode with a passion. From flamenco-dancing Spock to Kirk neighing like a horse, and the final match of "Control The Midget", the fun Platonian game involving knives and little people, it's possibly TOS' stupidest episode.

I agree 200 percent with that. At least with "Spock's Brain," there was a semblance of a plot. But "Plato" tried to fill the whole hour with embarrassing things for the captain and first officer to do. And the life-changing message of the piece? It's bad when people bully other people.

Let me also chip in about TNG's seventh season. The writing was so bad I think they did it deliberately because I think they wanted to be sure there wouldn't be an eighth season.

And that's the truth....

I'd have to nominate entire eps for embarassing moments: TOS's Spock's Brain, TNG's Rascals, DSN's Let He Who Is Without Sin, VOY's Threshold; and ENT's A Night In Sickbay. -- RR
RR your putting TOS's Spock's Brain in the same list as ENT's A Night In Sickbay
SAME on you

ANIS has NO entertaining qualites to it

Anytime they needed only to use the shuttlecraft for the emergency, but claimed they were stuck on the ship because of transporter malfunction.

Embarrassing movie moments.

Those god awful, ugly uniforms in Star Trek:The Motion Picture. I don't understand what was with the 1970's and ugly clothes. What was up with those belt buckles? Did they have a purpose? Those clothes were tight too. Mr. Scott looks like a porn star with his luxurious 70's mustache. (Nimoy had a 'stache too back in the day)
What was up with those male V-line neck collars? McCoy's hairy man chest? That celibate bald girl? I can't help thinking that a lot of the writing and wardrobe staff weren't sniffing the Andorian Space Dust.

Shatner's curly permanant toupee in Star Trek II and III. Very 1980's. Ricardo Montalban's fake, yet heaving and sexy plastic man chest in Star Trek II. At least the bald girl and those belt buckles were gone.

Star Trek V and VI when it was clear that the stars were getting too old for their parts, not to mention poor Mr. Scott fatter than Louie Anderson. ST:VI was not a bad film actually, except we thought that George Tekai would get his own series from it (which most of us really wanted!)

Star Trek V. The only TOS movie that really blew chunks. Not to mention the bad makeup, the old fat Klingon with the rubber head, not to mention Uhura doing a Cuban feather dance. (yeah, Nichelle is a GMILF, but that was just silllllllllly.)

SYBOK.-Spock's goofball half brother that Spock would not acknowledge. Sybok was a full blooded Vulcan yet he had long hair, a beard and had emotions who was on a search for God, a concept that Spock found illogical.

Generations- The first of the bad TNG films. Kirk and Picard ride horses in fairyland. Kirk gets killed by really lame enemy. (serious question, why did Shat allow his iconic character to be killed off, especially in this lame fashion? Nimoy is still milking Spock and is in the new movie. Was it Shat's choice?)

Inserrection-Basically a two hour TNG episode.

Nemesis-The movie that nearly killed the movie franchise and made the decision for Patrick Stewart to move on to X-Men and other projects. Besides killing off Data was just a rip off of Spock's death at the end of ST:II. B4? Lame!

This is easy: The press conference for Star Trek V (which can be seen as one of the extras on the "Collector's Edition" DVD release of the film).

Shatner emcees this train wreck on the Enterprise bridge set. He and all the actors are in costume, and Shatner introduces the other actors as they come out onto the set.

Best part of this: Shatner forgetting Walter Koenig's name. Shatner kind of shrugs it off as Koenig is clearly embarrased, but trying to play nice.

What was with the 1960's and beehive hair buns (ugly in any generation)? :p

A few things I want to comment about from this thread:

First of all, whoever called Worf the most mistreated character because his love interests kept getting killed off or enduring other terrible hardships must have forgotten about Miles "contractually obligated to endure immense suffering at least once a year" O'Brien. Here's a guy who had to do a "reverse Inner Light" and live a hellish nightmare prison life for decades AND have his wife inhabited by an evil spirit who makes him do her bidding by threatening to kill the wife, all the while forcing him to kiss her and pretend everything is okay in front of his friends. Nobody in Star Trek has been treated worse than O'Brien.

I agree with Robert about Rascals. I don't understand all the hate. It is a delightful romp, and has some of my favourite comedic TNG scenes, like little Picard throwing a tantrum so he has a chance to speak with Riker, and saying "no, I would not" to the idiotic children's computer. What makes it so funny is that the kid really does act well enough to convince you that you are watching a younger Patrick Stewart doing all these things, which are more overtly comedic than anything he ever did in the show. The awkward moments with Keiko, her daughter, and Miles amuse me too, even though they are kind of disturbing and sad. Young Guinan teaching Ro how to be a kid was sweet too. I admit the premise is ridiculous and the hijinx with the Ferengi were like Home Alone cheesiness, but still, I consider it harmless fun overall.

As for the beehive/bun hair, I think it can look good...it just depends on who's wearing it. Troi, for example, looked pretty lame with a bun hair-do, but Yeoman's Rand's hair-do was cool and unique, and obviously I think Jadzia wore it splendidly (in fact, I don't think any other Star Trek actress has ever made it look so good. :)). It was just a trendy sixties hair-do and while it is generally impractical and (as Khan so astutely pointed out in "Space Seed") rather unattractive when women with nice long hair sort of "hide" their hair with it, (as I said) it is possible for it to look quite fetching, given the right woman.

I liked the young Ro, and in retrospect young Picard was good too. But I would have taken a different approach so the viewers wouldn't have to suspend disbelief for the majority of the episode. I wanted to kick Miles when he kept treating Keiko like a kid, knowing full well that her maturity was the same as it was before. It would've been interesting to see them actually dealing with being different ages though.

I apologize if I offended anyone with my comment about hair buns. I find that I'm often unintentionally rude by giving negative opinions when there's no need to.

One bit on the 1970s TMP uniforms, I think they actually weren't so bad. They actually did look like something a multi-species organization would wear instead of the more human-oriented uniforms we saw everywhere else after that.

And the black buckles were supposed to be medical life monitors.

Now this I don't find embarrassing at all. Yeah, they got old. So will you and I, if we're lucky. The universe ain't just for young pretty things.

Oh, I came up with another one! A cringe-worthy moment I recently had to endure while watching the otherwise excellent "Timeless" (VGR). Seven of Fucking Nine drunk! Jesus Mary and Joe Cocker! Yes, Jeri Ryan looks good, but often she was not doing a very good job acting on VGR. When she stares at her hand and then pats the Doctor on his chest uttering "We're as one", then repeating it while looking around herself to see if someone cares, but only lame Harry Kim does, it's painful:

I don't know if it's her flat delivery of that line, or the concept itself. I just want to crawl under my couch and die of embarrassment when I see this...

That's ok. She ends up with Chakotay for reasons no one can explain.....In fact, I'm going to throw that in there as well.

Chakotay and Seven hook up for no reason what so ever.

I had shoved the outfits in Justice and Riker's boy toy costume out of my mind. After suffering the memories of those images again (think you very much for ruining my lunch with those) the decon scene I was going to mention does not seem bad at all.
