And I thought continuing the green wrap into S2 (originally to show id v. superego Kirk in Enemy Within) was to adjust for fluctuating weight. I think having green on the bridge looks good. Fits with the original rgb uni scheme foiled by velour that photographed as gold.

According to Marc Cushman (man, I always duck when I say that), you're right, it was to hide Shatner's weight gains. If that's true, it worked great for awhile. But eventually, the belly got a little too big for it to look right.

I also often wondered why Kirk's wrap around was green instead of the same lime/gold color as the regular tunic was. And why were the command dress uniform tunics also green? If the velour command tunics were really meant to be green, why not just make them from the same color fabric as the wrap around?

I am now trying to picture Decker and/or Tracey in their own wrap arounds. Any of you uber-talented artists out there want to take a hack at that?

Well, the chartreuse/olive velour that photographed gold came first. So then why not use that for the wrap and keep it consistent? Unknown. Perhaps it just didn't look good wrapping horizontally. Perhaps it was a second chance to get a green uni onscreen, It really looks good in scenes with people wearing red and blue. Better than gold imho. I like how the remastered gets that gold color back closer to green, though I dislike the darker vibe overall.

I've often wondered since Theiss, it has ben reported here, dyed his own fabric, why not alter the dye for the velour to come out green under the lights?

Probably to give us another color to show off our new RCA Victor televisions. When you're the first in color TV, there's got to be a reason...

Command seemed to be on a scale that went between gold and green, sometimes golder, sometimes greener. I heard it said about Next Gen that they went out of their way to use colors that were not standard ones we see every day. Every color was a bit different, often unusual mixtures of two colors.
--------------------
Designing a secondary command uniform and then having it be the exact same color as the primary would have been... boring. A foolish consistency. Why design a new one, and have it look the same? Presumably the new uniform was meant to make the captain stand out from the crowd in a crisis. Looking different from everybody else was the point.
==============
I imagine if they'd ever felt it necessary to come up with a secondary Spock uniform (though why?), they'd have picked a color similar to blue, but off a bit. Maybe they did for the fancy uniforms, I forget.

Wow, is it tough to pick a favorite from Season Two! There are so many to choose from: "The Changeling", "The Doomsday Machine", "Wolf in the Fold", "The Trouble with Tribbles", "A Piece of the Action", "Who Mourns for Adonais?", "Friday's Child". Too many to choose from! :shrug:
