I am a hardcore Trek fan. Trekker, Trekkie, call me anything you want, I not only accept it, I revel in it. No, I don't go to dorky conventions and I don't have much memorabilia in the name of Trek. But I am not one bit shy about professing my love for Star Trek. I have converted some very hardcore non-fans to hardcore fans of Trek, and yes, I gloat about it. Sue me.
And Paramount is trying my patience, my hardcore patience. My sweet, sweet patience. For the last couple of years we fans have endured torture bit by fucking bit, only to not have at least some pay off in the end. For Trek to not have a significant presence in Comic Con proves that. McG, that craptastic farkalot had a bigger presence with his T4 showings that Trek did. How the fark is that even possible?
Is Paramount going the way of Fox? Look at how over secrecy killed the X-Files movie. No story hints, no significantly interesting teaser trailer or a real trailer, and in the end, it gets beat up by the gayest movie of the summer, Mamma Mia! Fox thought the old fans are going to flock to this movie with its overhyped secrecy thing, and that killed whatever potential this movie had. And as for T4, it is only half way shooting and they already had an engaging and entertaining teaser out! And what is Abrams/Paramount giving us? Absolutely nothing!
Is Paramount thinking that old fans are going to make this movie a hit? Without any pre-buzz, without any significant interests to be raised? Only us Trek fans are waiting for crumbs of information to drop, but what of the general moviegoers? The ones that Abrams is trying to convert with this new movie?
Oh that's right, he is thinking the interest level in this movie is the same with non Trek fans as with Trek fans.
Sorry to rant, but for Trek not having a significant presence in Comic Con is making me see red. How can Paramount fuck that up? Didn't it see how Comic Con helped Iron Man? What harm would have been there if there was an exclusive trailer for Trek? I don't buy Abram's words about the effects not finishing one bit. This was a movie to be released in December, but now the effects aren't finished? Okay, fark the trailers, at least get the 'stars' of the new movie to get out and do a panel. Anton Yelchin was there, so was John Cho. I think Quinto was there too for the Heroes panel. Just get those three and Abrams together and you got at least an engaging panel!
If Paramount keeps up like this till next year, this movie will be squished by Wolverine and Terminator Salvation end to end. Hey Paramount, you listening?
