Exactly.

We're being told that this is the Enterprise, NCC-1701 and (apparently) that it will be the ship commanded by Captain Kirk during the fictional time period we associate with TOS.

All of that is true within the context of this movie. Within the context of a four-decades-old TV series, this ship looked different.

The fussing about this being some attempt by the producers to pollute the pure bodily fluids of Trek fandom by insisting that this version of the ship looks identical to the previous version of the ship is just bullshit and failing misdirection on the part of folks who are determined to pick at the movie without reason.
