Trek XI Cast Already Signed on to Make More Trek Movies?

According to a video interview on USA Today's web-site the cast of Star Trek XI has already signed on to do more Trek movies. Of course, this would depend on if the studio thinks that the movie makes them enough money to warrant a new film.

I like that they are signed on to do more movies because it means more Star Trek. However, if I could get another Star Trek movie I would prefer a post-Nemesis movie (with characters from TNG, DS9, & VOY). But, like I've said before, a TOS Trek movie is better than no Trek movie at all!!

Of course, how cool would it be if the studios decide to have the cast do a new Star Trek TV series with Abrams as the new Executive Producer?

More movies would be great, and a new series would be even better, IMO. But I wouldn't expect this cast to sign on for TV when they are making movies.

they are signed for options for 2 more films. this is pretty standard for franchise films these days. It is extremely unlikely they would do tv. That is part of CBS and CBS and Paramount are dif. companies with dif. agendas. Plus by say 2013, after Star Trek '3' is out, most if not all of the actors will be priced out of the tv market. Lastly Abrams is currently on an exclusive TV deal with Warner Bros....so he cannot make a trek tv show even with CBS.

I hope they do more movies...but I would prefer they be set in either the 23rd century with this cast, if Trek XI is a hit...or a film in the FAR distant future - maybe the 26th or 27th century.

I think we have spent enough time in the 24th century.

^ Damn stright we've spent far too much time in the 24th.

27th would be interesting if they show the tech regressing or the audiance would be too far removed from what's going on, or cut the technobabble way down so you don't need a PHD in engineering to understand it.

I consider it pretty much a given that these clauses will be operated on if the film is considered a success, and that the production team behind this film may be aiming for that popular pulp stable of a trilogy of blockbusters.

I also consider the time setting completely immaterial. We may go back to the 24th century, but we'll never go back to the 1990s.

^ Okay. Let me put it another way. I will NOT go to see another lame film with the TNG cast. :p

I'm tired of looking at their faces. :p

^ Well, but the point is to make Trek fresh and new for a new audience, right?

Well, those guys are by no means 'fresh'.

Quite true. Besides, it's not going to happen. If this movie succeeds, we get a sequel. If not, we may get nothing, and if we get anything at all, it won't be a return of the TNG cast.

^ Even if there is a new TNG film, by the time it gets made they'll need new actors to play the parts and it'll be dajavu all over again here with posts about the ship not looking right and on and on and on and on and on and on....

"However, if I could get another Star Trek movie I would prefer a post-Nemesis movie (with characters from TNG, DS9, & VOY)."

Yes! Absolutely! Because Nemesis did so well! Yes! Yay!

When the post Nemesis movie flops will people stop screaming, "Post Nemesis! Post Nemesis! :scream: :censored: :brickwall:"?

No.

This along with "Romulan War! Romulan War! :scream: :censored: :brickwall:"

leads me to the conclusion that some still will deny that people are fed up with TNG Lite.

The reason JJ Abrams chose to set Star Trek XI in the TOS era.

The Five Stages of Grief:

1. Shock and denial
2. Volatile Reactions
3. Disorganization and despair
4. Reorganization

Well, I would be perfectly thrilled with a sequel to this film. I'd really love to see more adventures of the TOS crew (recasted), updated and modernized for CGI and stuff.

Lighten up, Francis! Who's really in denial?? And, whoever posted it before me is right: you say 5 stages and list only 4. Huh??
:p

I want much the same as what Ro Laren wants: a post-NEM story with characters from all three 24th century series. However, I think a miniseries is the better way to go with an ensamble cast. Let Frakes be the executive producer of Trek TV projects and leave JJA in charge of the feature films.

As for the fact that NEM was a poor movie, I'll grant you that, but that doesn't mean every project that follows will be a failure. I use TFF and its follow up, TUC, as a good example. TFF was awful; we were lucky that Paramount didn't kill off the entire franchise at that point. Instead, we got TUC, which was an excellent movie that was successful at the box office. IMHO, the same could happen for NEM and a film that follows it, if an experienced 24th century Trek writer/director/producer team is involved. There was way too much success in TNG, DS9 and VOY to simply dismiss them so easily. A 6-8 hour miniseries that includes some characters and storyline continuations from them and even New Frontiers is my desire. Air it on a cable channel and replay it several times in different time slots. If it's successful, release it on DVD just before airing the next miniseries. Do this every 6 months or so to hit "sweeps weeks" in the spring and fall.

I would enjoy a mini-series too (that would mean we could get 6 or 8 hours of Trek versus 2 hours)!! It could be cool if Frakes directed it or JJ or even Ronald Moore (he has to do something once BSG is finished).

And just because Nemesis wasn't a box office success doesn't mean a new movie/mini-series/TV series set in the 24th century wouldn't do well.

This is a bit of a red herring - the technology in trek has never really advanced - sure they talk about it progressing but it's still a man with a raygun and a radio staring at a viewscreen.

I'm still waiting for my Star Trek: Razor tv movie set during the Dominion War with Quiznos-sponsored lesbians.

Naw, I'm still waiting for my Star Trek: Sonic Screwdriver tv movie set during the Tribble War with Papa John's-sponsored Caitain lesbians.
