Actually what it needs? a following.. people will be turned off because the name star trek, fans will be turned off by the fact that this movie shits all over what we loved about star trek. Now bring in a big name like jj abrams to direct, and re-image. to bring in new people too see the movie. Throw in spock to bring in the die hard fans. Add special effects.
the element that they just dont get...
TOS had crap for special effects, and low budgets, yet it spawned a following, because the stories kept people entertained. It was thought provoking, and had likeable characters. Ahh yeah and it had a point!!. A bright future, where everyone worked together.
this will turn out to be a special effects, action movie that might do very well because of 2 reasons.
1 the true fan has suffered for a lack of any new trek for a few years, and will be glad to go see anything trek.
2 the regular summer crowd because it will be an action block buster, with jj abrams daytime soap opera thrown in.
sorry for the rant, been reading about this for months and kept my mouth shut, and probablly wont say anything else about the movie..
