He's won a couple of Aurora awards for Best Canadian SF story, and been nominated for the Hugo and Nebula on occasion. He also had several novels published by Harper some years ago. This is his first book with Tor, although I'm already talking to his agent about Book 2.

The whole League of Peoples series he wrote starting with Expendable is great. Must've read it 6 times when I was in high school. Learning there was a new one coming out was a go-to-the-bookstore-every-day-until-it's-there level of anticipation.

And his short fiction collection Gravity Wells is preposterously charming.

Speaking of Trek writer's original works, I see that Kij Johnson (my collaborator on Dragon's Honor way back when) was just nominated for a Nebula Award for her recent novella, The Dream-Quest of Vellitt Boe.

Tor.com has announced that former TrekLit editor Marco Palmieri will be editing The Undefeated, a new original sc-fi novella by Una McCormack.
Here's how they describe the story:

Threatened with annexation by the interstellar Commonwealth, the settlers of the strategically important planet Sienna were able to prolong their independence only by submitting to a never-ending ordeal of intimidation and extortion. Now, with nowhere else to turn, the settlers hire a strange jenjer—a genetically engineered working class—woman to drive off their oppressors…

But a revolution is surging up through the ranks of the jenjers themselves, and what follows is nothing at all like what the settlers bargained for.

Sounds cool to me, and the idea of a Marco editing a new book by Una McCormack McCormack would be enough to get my attention even if the premise didn't sound this interesting.

Small correction: Based on Marco's comment it seems to be a novella, not a novel.

Really looking forward to this, Marco and Una were a great team on TrekLit, so this should be excellent.
