Trek writers original works

That sounds amazing. I'm so in.

Yay!

What the heck. Here's another quote I just got in a few weeks ago:

“All Those Explosions were Someone Else’s Fault starts with a bar joke and turns into a bravura superhero origin story for four unsuspecting university students. Kim Lam is geology student trying to forget a dark past, complete with undead ex-boyfriend, when a Waterloo laboratory explosion turns them into a superbeing with a capital . . . well, a capital Z. James Alan Gardner serves up a hilarious, fast-paced mix of good clashing with evil, in a world where the moral dilemmas would challenge even the most rigorous ethicist. The only true winners will be his readers.”

--Alyx Dellamonica, author of The Nature of a Pirate

Sounds brilliant! I've never read anything by James Alan Gardner - but I'm going to be looking him up now.

Great!

He's won a couple of Aurora awards for Best Canadian SF story, and been nominated for the Hugo and Nebula on occasion. He also had several novels published by Harper some years ago. This is his first book with Tor, although I'm already talking to his agent about Book 2.

The whole League of Peoples series he wrote starting with Expendable is great. Must've read it 6 times when I was in high school. Learning there was a new one coming out was a go-to-the-bookstore-every-day-until-it's-there level of anticipation.

And his short fiction collection Gravity Wells is preposterously charming.

^ So cool . . . and encouraging to hear!

So, since people in these parts seem interested, here's another quote:

“Jim Gardner’s All Those Explosions were Someone Else’s Fault is the most sheer fun I’ve had in years. It is what the doctor ordered and why the preacher danced. Jim goes from zero to sixty in about two pages, and then sustains that lunatic pace for the rest of the book, spraying ideas like sparks. I love a story that makes you want to read at your slowest pace, to savor all the grace notes—but forces you to read at breakneck speed to find out what happens next. This is one of those: a very smart, funny, thrilling, and quite original science fictional treatment of magic by a master of both, featuring an irresistibly appealing heroine. And how often do you get to read a sentence fragment like, ‘. . . but once you’re in a rat’s digestive tract, there’s no good way for the story to end.’?”

--Spider Robinson

Speaking of Trek writer's original works, I see that Kij Johnson (my collaborator on Dragon's Honor way back when) was just nominated for a Nebula Award for her recent novella, The Dream-Quest of Vellitt Boe.

Congrats to Kij!

Tor.com has announced that former TrekLit editor Marco Palmieri will be editing The Undefeated, a new original sc-fi novella by Una McCormack.
Here's how they describe the story:
Tor.com said:
Threatened with annexation by the interstellar Commonwealth, the settlers of the strategically important planet Sienna were able to prolong their independence only by submitting to a never-ending ordeal of intimidation and extortion. Now, with nowhere else to turn, the settlers hire a strange jenjer—a genetically engineered working class—woman to drive off their oppressors…

But a revolution is surging up through the ranks of the jenjers themselves, and what follows is nothing at all like what the settlers bargained for.
Sounds cool to me, and the idea of a Marco editing a new book by Una McCormack McCormack would be enough to get my attention even if the premise didn't sound this interesting.
EDIT: Fixed the errors pointed out by Defcon. (And it was the c not the k that I was missing)

Small correction: Based on Marco's comment it seems to be a novella, not a novel.

Really looking forward to this, Marco and Una were a great team on TrekLit, so this should be excellent. :)

P.S.: You are missing a k in Una's last name. :)

If you'll allow me a shameless plug, THE LIBRARIANS AND THE MOTHER GOOSE CHASE officially goes on sale today.

I picked up Nomad the other day and plan on reading it once I've finished reading what I am reading now. I think @James Swallow is one of the best Trek novelist at the moment, so I have high hopes!

For those who might be interested, my upcoming original novel The Midnight Front is now available for preorders in a variety of formats (including hardcover, trade paperback, eBook, and digital audio) from several different retailers (including the publisher, Amazon, Barnes & Noble, and many others).

Tomorrow, May 12, is my 48th birthday. The greatest gift y'all could give me would be to get as many folks as you know who've read and enjoyed my Star Trek novels to preorder one or more copies of my foray into secret-history contemporary dark fantasy.

I'm just sayin'… :-)

I am sorry, I've already ordered Section 31: Control two weeks ago
