Highly doubtful they would just put on the feature films but maybe a couple of them just one time each year.

Paramount Pictures just put money into their new premium cable channel EPIX TV which is where we'll probably see the Trek features films ending up next.

For CBS Television to start a new Trek-only cable TV channel does not seem likely in today's cable marketplace. syndication brings them a lot of money still. I think most (TOS, TNG, ENT) of the series are in syndication in the USA right now.
With a on-demand video and digital download streaming video the next big thing starting a cable channel that is a real niche market is not the best business decision in the next 5 years.
I think a Trek-only channel would actually hurt the Star Trek brand that is currently back on pop culture radar with Star Trek (2009).
Paramount Pictures is focuses on keeping it in the cinema with the Star Trek XII film greenlit. Diluting that brand with a Trek-only TV channel would not be the best strategy.
They will have about 3 years now before the next feature film so Blu-ray releases & syndication will hold them over as they know Trek fans will buy the movies & series on a HD format.

What's the point of showing reruns on TV? We all have DVDs or know where to get them.

I brought this up awhile ago. I think it is a great idea.

It could also have the specials and maybe a new show or two. I wouldn't mind seeing a new show done with the budget of a soap opera and as many episodes as one.

As for the people that are saying they have the DVDs, that is true. However, it is not the same as having trek on TV. It just always seems different to me. An episode that I would never really seek out to watch from DVD, I would watch if I saw it on TV.

I am all for it.

I have been suggesting this for years.....it could work. 600+hours of episodes? movies? If you played all the episodes, including the animated series, back to back? It would take nearlyi six weeks, 24 hours a day, to see it all..THAT is amazing.

You could spread that out in the morning with episodes of JASON STARCOMMAD (Doohan was on that show) and IN SEARCH OF....

But if it was a pay channel, how much a month would you pay???

Yeah exactly. The value of something decreases when you hold it in your hands.

It's also like eating a buffet vs tiny portions at a great restaurant. It sucks to have to wait between courses or only have that one piece of dessert but the experience is enhanced.

And if you live alone. Eating home alone, vs eating out at a restaurant. Watching a dvd episode is not like watching it on tv at the same time others are watching.

As far as the DVD vs scheduled tv mini debate goes: Sometimes breaking out all your discs for a viewing party can seem overly cumbersome and time sucking, it goes against my need to potato myself, couch-wise. Let me instead enjoy a stream of episodic or cinematic treasures presented to me with little of my own involvment and I'm all kinds of good with it ~ Plus I'll be entertained by things I forgot I loved until it's happens to be on my magic picture box right in front of me. DVD collections, while lovely, often just sit and collect dust. In my case, it's usually cuz there's other stuff on TV to watch.
