^ Pity we never see them do it. Whenever someone is pursuing another ship and knock it to sublight they instantly drop from warp to engage it at sublight as well and then engage at very close ranges.

One reason might have been that phasers use to not work at warp and they are the primary weapon in Star Trek but that changed when we saw a Nebula and the Prometheus duke it out with phasers at warp. Though how close would you need to be to hit a sublight object if you were at warp with a phaser?

Of course the real world reason is that it makes better TV to have your opponents engage within a few kilometres of each other but it would be nice to see a bit more variety in starship battles on Trek.

I must've missed most or all of the instances in later series where a warp-driven ship engaged a slower-than-light target. What episodes?

Elaan of Troyius is one such example, IIRC. The sabotage limited the Enterprise to sublight and it got the beat-down from a Klingon ship.

Yeah. Also happened in The Ultimate Computer, when the Enterprise destroys the Woden. I was wondering about instances in later series...

one thing Star Wars is not short of is super weapons.

Trek superweapons or what could be used as superweapons:

The Doomsday Machine
Species 8472 Bioships in planetkiller formation
Trilithium Torpedo
Krenim timeship
Genesis Torpedo
Omega Molecule
V'ger
Whale Probe
Nomad Probe

Anyways who cares? We all know the Andromeda Ascendant would win any tech-battle. Ranges thousands of kilometres? Hell, she measures combat ranges in light-minutes! As for a Death Star, destroying a planet pales compared to the power of fifty nova-bombs!!! :p

Seriously though, any direct comparison of tech between Trek and Wars is impossible, as both rely on one thing.

The tech does what it needs to do for the sake of plot.

How else do you explain almost every X-Wing in the galaxy takes a single hit and goes up like a firecracker, yet Luke and Wedge can be hit a few times with glancing hits or minor damage? :)
