Even though I'm still on the DS9 relaunch and still feel like I'm living in 2003 when it comes to the Trek lit universe, I feel like the books are where I go to get that New Trek. I like the Abrams films, Star Trek moreso than Into Darkness, but we've only had two and it's just a new kind of Trek feel. The books takes me back to the era I was a fan of and, while I'm still reading Unity, I've really enjoying what they do bring to the DS9 mythos. I'm thinking about transitioning from DS9 to another series (I've heard the Enterprise Destiny Books are really good, but I also want to do some TNG or maybe finally read Homecoming and Further Shore) after I finish as kind of a break point. There's just so much to read it might start feeling a little overwhelming.
Just stick with it, there's absolutely no rush and so much to read. Even though it's daunting, they can't pump out new books faster than you can read them I'm sure, so eventually you'll catch up. I was in your shoes, I was in 2003 back in 2011, but now that it's 2015, I'm already in late 2011!
