Trek Prequel Comic -SPOILERS- (official COUNTDOWN review thread)

the only problem I have with the comic Data being B-4, is would he assume Data's rank? if they are treating him as the 'same' entity, fair enough, but surely he's a different being and should have to start from the bottom, therefore Captain is an unreasonable rank in the timeframe.

Is it any different to Captain Spock returning from the dead after three months?

Or Commander Spock returning to duty after "Spock's Brain"?

Or Captain Kirk after being split into two people?

Or Tuvok returning to duty after "Tuvix"?

B4 wasn't much of an entity. He was pretty much a blank slate, and the only time he showed any personality was when Data's memory of that song emerged right at the end of Nemesis, with B4 humming it.

It may be that this is more a case of Data being transplanted into B4's body by way of downloading his programs. He said regarding his daughter Lal that when she died and he downloaded all her programs into himself, he came to have all her memories. Obviously Data somehow isolated those memories from his active mind, so that the two identities didn't merge, but he did still have them.

B4 may not have had the sophstication to isolate Data's memories, and so as time passed Data simply "surfaced" in B4's body.

Remember Spock and McCoy in ST3? McCoy at times spoke as Spock and instinctively worked Spock's station on the Enterprise.

Remember Spock's extreme melding with Medusan Ambassador Kodos in "Is There In Truth No Beauty?" They became one person.

This could be an electronic version of a Vulcan mind fusion.

B4 was nothing more than a means to an end...Data uploading his memories into him gave him a chance at life. The potential we saw at the end of Nemesis. I don't have a problem if this is B4 or Data, we'll find out in the second issue comes out. The fact of the matter is that it appears that Data has returned. I'm eagerly awaiting the explanation.

Most likely, it's B-4 after assimilating all of Data's old memories and programming. Which allows the late 24th century TNG canon and timeline to remain in one piece(for now, anyways)even if Nero's acts alter the old TOS history in the previous century.
