Trek on your iPod

Anybody know the easiest way to rip episodes from my Trek DVDs to a small video file I can copy to my iPod/iPhone?

P.S. - I'm using a MacBook...

I'm not sure it's entirely legal to rip episodes off of DVDs, even ones you own, so I'm going to shut this thread down at least while we discuss it and make sure.
