Trek Nation - For Real ? - A New Paradise Social Platform

STARTREK11

Lieutenant Commander
Red Shirt
I was looking at the trekbbs board page and at the top left hand corner there is hyperlink called "TrekNation".

Can you see it?

As I was looking at it,it occurred to me why not have an actual real world Trek Nation.

An island could be bought by a rich Trekkie and then allowed only to be populated by trekkers.

All people on tis Trek Nation island would have to be valid trekkers and be interviewed and swear allegiance to uphold federation principles and values.

They would also be required to behave in a Trek verse manner. They would wear Trek clothes as shown in the various series. They would go to work and try to promote trek ideals and create a mini trek cosm on this island dedicated to trekism and it's various offshoots.

It would be financed by a combination of traditional and tech industries and possibly carefully controlled tourism for non-trekers who would them possibly appreciate trekism and may even become federation members.

In other words a Trek Paradise would be engineered.

Finance could be sought from people like Bill Gates and Paramount who I understand are contract bound to help real trek projects in a contractual obligation drawn by Gene Roddenberry

I write this as a serious and profound idea and ask for your input regarding a real world TrekNation which would act a a sort of Trek nucleus Foundation promoting Trekism.

Re: Trek Nation - For Real ?

Back in the 80s a group of friends and I would often speculate about a Trek Nation, or Trek Town (we didn't have such big ideas back then). We'd spend forever thinking up street names, for example. My favourite was: FortheworldishollowandIhavetouchedthesky Avenue. Doesn't sound very amusing, but back then most of our Trek conversations were (at the very least) alcohol-fuelled. :rommie:

Re: Trek Nation - For Real ?

You know ... it would be interesting living in such a city/area.

Also ... if we would have dedicated research labs, various people from this board who are talented in scientific departments would probably be allowed to experiment with new technologies making all kinds of hybrids and cheap means of providing power, means of transportation, etc ...

I would personally much rather live in North Korea and eat tree bark.

Like other sociological experiments (one of which, communism, being an enormous influence on Star Trek) the result would be a grim, humourless dictatorship locked in petty ideological squabbles plus some paranoid bloodbaths, until nobody cared anymore and was glad to be rid of it.

I enjoy the TrekBBS, but I wouldn't want to live here.

"Serious" does not equal "profound;" this is certainly the former but not the latter.

To be fair, it does contain a peculiarly American strain of Utopianism. Sadly, given the well-known proclivities of trek fans as summarized by William Shatner all those years ago on SNL, such a community would be doomed to the same fate as the Shakers of the 18th century...and for similiar reasons. ;)

i don't think the OP was propsing a place like Trek BBS to live, god-forbid. Instead, living in a place like Earth is alluded to be in most of the 23rd and 24th century would be nice. No war amongst each other, no unfulfilled need for matierial posessions, a healthy search for knowledge, wisdom and an understanding and acceptance of each individual for what they bring to the table.

I assume this is the idea, or is it more of a Starfleet town, that would be a bit more 'regimented' but fun.

I thought he was pretty clearly suggesting a Trekkie community... and that sounds a lot more like the TrekBBS than Star Trek's paradise.

Re: Trek Nation - For Real ? - A New Paradise Social Platfor

Well, its Official Tourism Slogan would probably be "Trek Nation: The Worldwide Leader In Sex Without The Participation of Other People"

Re: Trek Nation - For Real ? - A New Paradise Social Platfor

Jeez, can you imagine if Trek BBS were an island with us all living on it? At least on the internet we're limited to just arguing with each other. On an island we could get into actual fights, and the moderators would have to get into riot gear and end it with tear gas or something.

Re: Trek Nation - For Real ? - A New Paradise Social Platfor

Would there be any money? Because I'm thinking that the economics of Trek Nation would be "very different".

Re: Trek Nation - For Real ? - A New Paradise Social Platfor

But I haven't got any latinum. I don't mind working to earn it, mind. So, is there employment here in Trektopia?

This is VERY funny. Made my day.

Right up there with the Society for Creative Anachronism folks who want to do the same sort of thing, but envision some sort of midddle-ages based paradise (apparantly forgetting feudal oppression, religious oppression (inquisition anyone>), the plague, etc.).

Re: Trek Nation - For Real ? - A New Paradise Social Platfor

A nation of people rabbiting on about IDIC who are only allowed in there because they're Trekkers?

"Hello?"
"Hi! I'm a Stargate fan!"
"FUCK OFF!"

There will have to be rules.

Comic Book Guy: Inspired by the most logical race in the galaxy, the Vulcans, breeding will be permitted once every seven years.

For many of you, this will mean much less breeding. For me, much, much more.

Re: Trek Nation - For Real ? - A New Paradise Social Platfor

It would be overcrowded very quickly as nobody would ever really die.

Ever read Lord Of The Flies?

Re: Trek Nation - For Real ? - A New Paradise Social Platfor

Sounds good, I think I'll be a Doctor. Where did I put my medical tricorder?

There it is. "Next!"

I wasn't convinced before, but now...
