trek movie prototypes

"Turquoise" isn't really that "out of place" when describing the blue/green/grey of the original phaser body (which was never black, really, was it?)

Here's my phaser prop... note the colors (which are correct matches for the most commonly seen "hero" prop after the first few episodes of the first season).

Note that the type-one unit is black with silver, but that the powerpack/grip is actually dark bronze, and the body is a blue-green-tinted grey.

I can imagine someone describing that as "turquoise" (instead of being "black" if that's what they were expecting).

That explanes it !

Thanks, I see the main part as grey myself, but like I said, that's just me I guess ;)

My phaser looks a lot like the one in the top photo, only it's a Playmates one, I should get an AA one or a MR one as they look a lot better, more like Wah Chang's [sp] design for the "Hero" prop as seen in the pics above.

* Much thanks for the images *

I don't think they're using a recycled toy design, doesn't that defeat the whole purpose of showing off a new product?

Personally, I fully expect this new phaser to just be a repaint of the phaser Playmates put out in the 90's.

I hope they release a cast shot and some real eye candy of the uniforms and such soon. In turn, I'm so pleased that Eaves is involved in this movie, can't wait to see more of the ship designs.

I'm unsure what it is with the bedroom betties around here and their pathetic hatred of Eaves and his work, beyond rabid jealousy. He will definitely bring the right feel to a new, modern Star Trek, coupled with a great production crew.

:wtf:

Aside from The God Thing's vicious commentaries regarding Eave's work years back... well, you've lost me.

Or should I have read the whole thread? I'm a lazy bugger when it comes to that.

I'm not a big fan of Eaves' work either, though I don't think that they're "aweful."

For me, I think that Eaves' work represents the triumph of STYLE over SUBSTANCE. Probert's work, which I almost universally love, is just the opposite. While Andrew may not be a trained engineer or scientist, he "gets it" better than many folks who ARE. His designs always, first and foremost, made logical sense.

Eaves' work always "looks cool" but when you start thinking about it, the whole thing really falls apart... or at least it does when I'm thinking it through. How much of that may be because of his personal style and how much may be due to "micromanagement" by the Beebs is something I can't answer, though... I DO know that his original 1701E design had the impulse engine set in the middle and a pair of hangar decks where the impulse engines ended up being, and THAT was changed at the command of the Beebs.

But all that "nerny-greebly" garbag on the underside of the primary hull... and the nonsensical color-variation scheme (done for "graphics art" reasons with no evident scientific or even pseudo-scientific rationale)... those things I can't imagine being the fault of anyone but him.

Still... until I really pay close attention to the 1701E, I do have to admit that the "first impression" is actually reasonably positive.

^ Spot-on assessment, except I find the 1701E's basic form on first impression quite ungainly.

And just to be pedantic, the word *is* spelled "awful". "Aweful" is not a word.

The Ent-E is just a stretched version of the Ent-B. Except it has more lines, which makes it look like someone was trying to print a circuit-board on it. I'd rather have had a ship that looked like an advanced, seeker version of the Ent-D. And by 'seeker', I don't mean 'stretched.'

Hi guys
just seen toys.there is a romulan ship gold in colour and is
organic and squid like.I was suprised how faithful it is to the original series.spock had grey hair.kirk was in a red skin tight jumpsuit, there was also a figure of kirk in st tos gold v neck, bridge was same layout as previous incarnations, was gold metalic in colour, best character was nero in a purlple jumpsuit, kind of reminded me of alex ramond flash gordon style characters.phasers are exactly the same, uhura very sexy with mini skirt and boots.
1701 absolutely gorgeous,a mix of tv and movie enterprise, warp nacelles more aero dynamic, rest of ship exactly the same.there was a pike figure, still cant get over how much like the original series the feel is,crew in same attire as 60s tv show, there is going to be a 4inch range and 7 inch range, great stuff!!!!!!!!!!!!!
None of this surprises me and it's all disappointing.

And how is a squid like Romulan ship faithful to the original TOS BoP?

Any of you guys been to comic-con? This year is bound to have a trek presentation
I was at the Star Trek panel this past July and it was awesome! There will most definitely be something at next years; Abrams even mentioned it

Right on! I went too,Paramount ruled the comic-con.
Indy 4,trek,cloverfield,and Iron man!
It was great to see nimoy and quinto on the same stage, thought it was funny what Nimoy said that his wife was freaked out with the similarity of quinto and him.

I think he's talking about everything he saw in general. Probably forgot to add in "all" after "it".
