TREK MOVIE POSTERS

Peak is a legend and his Bond movie posters were more exciting than the films themselves.
Which Bond films did he do posters for besides The Spy Who Loved Me?

Looking down the list, Peak really did a lot of great poster work... some of my favorite movies are listed on that webpage... Apocalypse Now, My Fair Lady, Superman, as well as his five Trek posters.

I know that already, but it's an incomplete list. I was hoping ChristopherPike knew of some other Bond films Peak did poster art for. The only one I know of that looks like a Bob Peak poster is The Spy Who Loved Me.

Here is Bob Peak's poster art for TUC. It was never used in any of the movie's posters.

But it was used in some tie-in products like this jigsaw puzzle.

You know, I always figured a few of those Roger Moore Bonds were Bob Peak's. The last gasp of proper art drawings. Looking into this again now, I discover they were done by Drew Struzan. Later on they went photo realistic. They did approach Peak again for Licence to Kill, but the few he did like this one went unused.

I remember that, now. The making-of documentary about Licence shows what would have been the actual poster. They claim it was scrapped because it had the film's original title on it (Licence Revoked), but seeing the other examples of Peak's Trek work here without any lettering or logos, I'm calling shenanigans on that notion. More's the pity, because the Licence to Kill posters we got were an extra 10% shitty.

Struzan never did a James Bond poster.

Robert McGinnis and Frank McCarthy did many of the classic Bond posters.

I really like all of the movie posters. It's hard for me to pick my favorite, but I think I would have to go with the poster for The Undiscovered Country and The Wrath of Khan.

My least favorites, though, would be The Search for Spock, Insurrection (which was too much a rip-off of the teaser poster for TUC) and Nemesis. I remember being disappointed by the posters for both Insurrection and Nemesis, especially Nemesis, which I thought should've been bigger and more epic if it was "A generation's final journey".

You're totally right and I screwed up. For what it's worth, I hope Struzan gets the opportunity to do a Bond film poster someday. To me, his work on the Indy series ones are something else and his touch would be a throwback to 007's golden age.

Anyhow back on topic... let's not forget the teaser posters here!

Nice stuff, ChristopherPike and Cyrus. Saved.

In checking around, there is a mistake upthread. It has been stated that the poster for ST:6 TUC was done by Bob Peak. That is incorrect. While Peak did the earlier ones, and he did the rejected ones for ST:6 I posted, the poster for ST:6 was created by John Alvin in the style of Bob Peak. As Alvin considered Peak an influence in his illustration style, he considered this an honor.

Anybody know if the teaser poster for TUC that ChristopherPike posted above was done by Peak? It sure looks like it.

EDIT: Cyrus, I've always liked that picture of the Phase II Enterprise. Here is a little higher resolution version I found years ago on the web. It is from a poster of that era. It also has a different color balance that I prefer.

It's too bad we don't get the whole picture used on the teaser poster. It would give the image more depth and motion.

Mods, I realize on some screens, this might stretch the page. My apologies and again, please turn it into a link if you feel that's best.

The Memory Alpha article about John Alvin says "posters" in reference to his work on TUC, so I'm assuming he did both the teaser and final poster. But as the article mentioned, he was asked to do them in the style of Bob Peak.

The TMP poster is my absolute favorite, but my sentimental favorite would have to be Bob Peak's TVH poster:

On the other hand, this one:

was done for the home video release. I really don't understand why they scrapped Bob Peak's excellent poster in favor of this much more shoddy version.
