Trek Manga-style

Way to go, baxart!

I've been offline and haven't been able to comment earlier; your art is fantastic.

Thank you, thank you, for the Uhura DJ pic. Nice animation, too.

Love the Klingons, that would have been too expensive for Classic Trek but in manga the makeup effects don't cost extra. I would imagine the senior officer uniforms would have more bling to remind the junior Klingons of their status. These Klingons look to have a wolf pack mentality, they look kinda... feral.

Kim Possible... I'm not familiar with that show. Is it me or did the young blonde man miss his target? He has the 'oops' expression.

Mirror Universe: I like the zeal Kirk expresses; Beard- and - ponytail Spock looks like he's thinking 'Oh dear. Another Kirk Dastardly Moment'.

Keep going, I'm enjoying your work.

Since I had a couple of Mirror Universe requests...

*Thud* I love it! This has so been my favourite thread for weeks. I love your work.

Any chance of a MU Riker? :)

Thanks for the comments!
Wills: Your favorite thread? (Ego-stroke... feels good) Thanks!
Michael: That's exactly what I was going for with the Klingons! Mainly I've increased their costume budget and given them angular features and the ears. In the pool table pic you'll see a General in a fancier uniform. Basically I'n using the collar and gauntlets to identify command officers, and the cord signifies status among commanders. Kang had a three cord braid, whereas Kamael has a single cord. (more on this later)
The blonde guy is Ron, Kim's klutzy sidekick, so probably. And Mirror Spock, oh yeah. Notice too that Uhura's ready for him, blade drawn.

This one is for you Redfern:

digital version soon.

This one was quick and dirty, but I like it. A legacy of command. From left: Capt. John Archer NX-01, Capt. Robert April NX-1701, and Capt. Christopher Pike.

Thanks, BaxArt! This one's going straight into my clowder of catgirls collection, sub-folder "M'Ress". I jope I didn't come across as "pushy" or "whiny". Can I pay you back in some fashion?

Sincerely,

Bill

BaxArt, color me very impressed. I am more of a lurker than a poster in this forum, but I wanted to post to express my enjoyment of those pictures. As a Trek fan and a Manga fan, you've done an excellent job fusing them together in a real, workable format. Well done! :D

Temeraire & Ziz,
If I'd called it "Trek Animated" I'd had people bickering about how it doesn't look enough like TAS.
I read a lot of Manga. Take a look at Vagabond, Path of the Assassin, Battle Angel Alita, and Uzumaki (Junji Ito, not Naruto). You'll see quite a variety of styles that fall under the "manga" banner.

I guess I could change it to: Trek, Modern American, (Anime/Bruce Timm/Alex Toth influence) Animation style; but that seems a little wordy.

Well, I'm the first to admit I'm not exactly an expert on anime/manga, I was just going by what I knew of the style in general.

Whatever you want to call it, it's still great work.

Re: Now with Klingons!

I was playing around before I got serious.

Hmm, BaxArt, something tells me this girl started "life" as Oola the Twilek dancer from "Return of the Jedi" and you modified your earlier illustration to become an Orion "animal" woman. If the inner, darker regions of hair were deleted and the outer locks tinted the same color as her skin, they'd become the famous "head tails".

Am I in the ballpark or am I totally wandering outer left field?

Sincerely,

Bill

Might there also be a bit of Phil Foglio influence in there, baxart? Some of the Klingons, especially, remind me of the Jägermonsters in Girl Genius - not a bad thing, as I really like Foglio's style (once upon a time, at my first and only Trek convention, I bought his "Star Trek Primer" and wish to hell now that I hadn't lost it in one of my several moves! ).

Great stuff you've got going here - always nice to see hand-drawn work, and this expressive, to boot!

Dead on Redfern, good eye! :)

Ptrope & Nightfall: I got into Foglio back in his Myth Adventures days. I'm reading both Girl Genius and Buck Godot regularly so... maybe/probably he does a very expressive character style, something that I think is missing in a lot of modern comic artists.

I also am green with envy Ptrope! I've been watching your Trek Reanimated thread and love what you're doing with the interiors and I've scarfed everything you've offered for download. (I have a bridge mod I'd kinda like done... it replaces the back wall and the helm nav station. *whimper whimper*)

Awesome work baxart :D The Klingons look great and the slave girl too, I'm curious about your take on Scotty and McCoy btw. :D

Wha...? I was right?! :wtf:

A bit more seriously, I initially noticed, Hmm, a chain?" Then I saw the cut of her outfit with the loose leggings and finally I studied the "sweep" and bold locks of her hair.

It's funny how some fans will debate which are better. I say, "Why fight? Let the ladies themselves resolve the issue while wrestling in oil!"

Sincerely,

Bill
