Trek guest actors in maybe surprising roles

DeForest Kelley in Perry Mason "The Case of The Unwelcome Bride". Kelley plays the accountant stepson-in-law who is about to be passed over for partnership in the investment firm he's worked hard for, while his step-brother-in-law, who only wants the money, is going to get it all, if he'll only divorce his wife. Despite a lot of thoughtful close-ups in the court room, he's not the killer (thankfully).

Interesting that De Kelley appeared on Perry Mason, as he did a pilot for a character based on the same real person Perry Mason was based on. There's reference, and a link to the pilot on Youtube, somewhere on the forum, perhaps even in this thread. I don't have time to look for it now.

Yeah, "333 Montgomery" on Alcoa Theatre, a failed Gene Roddenberry pilot from 1960 burned off on an anthology show. I can't find the video anymore; maybe it was pulled.

Just caught Teri Garr on an episode of Murphy Brown playing herself. She's backstage waiting go on Letterman and Murphy causes her to get flustered and she bombs on-air with Dave. Garr is funny and lovely as usual, and in real life was a frequent guest of Late Night when Dave was still at NBC

Said pilot was 333 Montgomery.

The character De plays is based on the real Jake Ehrlich, who was the model for television lawyers Perry Mason and Sam Benedict.

"333 Montgomery" (June 13, 1960) starred DeForest Kelley in the pilot episode of an unsold series written by Gene Roddenberry. It was based on the book Never Plead Guilty by San Francisco criminal lawyer Jake Ehrlich. Kelley acted in three separate pilots for Columbia, and the studio decided to try him in a lead and sent him to meet Roddenberry. Kelley and Roddenberry went to San Francisco to meet Ehrlich, who chose him for the lead. This event was crucial to Kelley's career because it introduced him to Roddenberry, later resulting in his Star Trek role.

Peter Duryea is also in the episode (12 O'Clock High, "The Pariah," Nov. 4, 1966).

I recently posted another Trek guest appearance here.
