Trek. Good Actors?

Oh yeah--Shatner, Nimoy, Kelly, Spiner, Ryan, Trineer to name the standouts. Few were outright bad, most were at least middling--they could inhabit their characters at least, even if perhaps no others. In my opinion, bad acting wasn't a problem with any of the 5 Star Treks--other problems, perhaps, but not acting.

Well said. And while it's always easy to make fun of the Shatman, his overall body of work, while shall we say...uneven...has plenty of highpoints, in and out of Trek.

When he's bad, yeah, it's pretty bad...but when he had a good script and good direction he could do damn fine work.

Something happened when Insurrection came around then. Or that's just the material. It's just watching the film he morphs from Captain Picard to Patrick Stewart "Theater actor" particularly in any scene where he has to be funny with Worf.

Trek has had some amazing actors, and some amazingly acted scenes. Shatner, Stewart, Nimoy, Kelly, Brooks... all fine actors. And that's just touching the surface.

No, ACTING was never a problem in Star Trek...

Yep, it's the "Sylvester McCoy/Colin Baker" thing all over again: Fine actors, and it REALLY showed when they had fine writing, but people get the wrong idea if the writing isn't up to par.

I really can't think of any Trek actors who I would describe as being bad. But I would like to say that despite the fact that everybody thinks they were just eye candy Jeri Ryan and Jolene Blalock were actually really good actresses.

^ Not everybody thinks that at all. Ryan was terrific in my opinion, though I don't think Blalock stood out nearly as much.

I would have been terribly interested to see Tony Todd play Ben Sisko. The guy has a voice to rival That Movie Announcer Guy or God.
