Trek BBS Kidney Klub: Kidney Issue People ONLY! ;)

If only your kidneys could repair themselves like your liver can. I know someone that had a kidney transplant though and she seems to be fine. Aside from the fistula on her arm from the dialysis, you couldn't tell anything was different with her and she's been ok with the new kidney for years. Good luck!

As a child I had a scan over a kidney infection, it showed I have 3 kidneys. On one side there's 2 back to back.

A lot of people might have this and never know. It's no health issue.

Are all of them fully functioning? Could you donate one, if you chose, and still be just fine, or has your body adapted to needing all three?

Sorry if I’m being intrusive, it’s just interesting.

^^ Heh. That's a good idea. :rommie:

Aries, good luck to you. Hopefully the situation isn't as bad as the initial diagnosis indicates and you won't need a transplant.

I'm also one of those kidney stone people. I've had a total of four, the last two being twins (I tell everybody I'm G3 P4, but few of them get it). Kidney stones are the most amazingly painful experience you can imagine; I spent hours in the ER on each occasion, pumped full of Demerol happiness. None of them ever passed on their own. The first one had to be taken out by that rotor rooter thing that they use; that was a day and a week of misery. The other three they were able to zap with Extracorporeal Shock-Wave Lithotripsy, which, aside from sounding like cool Star Trek technobabble, is pretty painless; I actually fell asleep during my last one.

Well I get out tomorrow.

No medication. Just an admonishment to drink billions of gallons of water a day. Abstain from caffeine and alcohol. Follow a sodium restriction diet. And above all go in for testing every three months.

Chemical exposure did this as well as thinking that at the age of 35 that I am still "young and indestructible." That includes staying up all night computering and existing on a diet of garbage and liquid garbage with fizz.

My situation is minor. The lady in the thread below this one needs more support and well-wishes than I do she's got some heavy shit going on.
