TREK BBS - Best of TV 2008.

1 Doctor Who
2 Heroes
3 Merlin
4 The Sarah Jane Adventures
5 Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles
6 Primeval
7 Star Wars: The Clone Wars
8 Fringe
9 Torchwood
10 Strictly Come Dancing

Well, if John Adams (HBO) is 2008, I could add that to my list. Ditto for Dexter Season Two (Showtime) and Torchwood (BBC.)

Hey, that still just takes me to fifteen, plus three roses that still have a bloom (so far.) I haven't got very elevated tastes, so if I can't find twenty really good series, then TV must be pretty bad. No wonder I read so much.

The only shows I watched this year:

1. Chuck
2. Lost

14. BSG

20. Heroes

I should really rank them 1-4, but I don't think the last two deserve it this year.

My viewing habits are a bit odd, I don't really watch a lot of straight comedy or drama shows. My wife has gotten me into watching some reality shows, and they're not too bad. DVR has also changed my viewing habits somewhat.

1. Biggest Loser-One of the few truly worthwhile shows on TV
2. Body Challenge(DSC)-The show that started it all. http://health.discovery.com/national-body-challenge/national-body-challenge.html
3. How its Made(DSC)-Makes me yell out loud at least once an episode!http://science.discovery.com/fansites/howitsmade/howitsmade.html
4. Universe- http://www.history.com/minisite.do?content_type=mini_home&mini_id=54036
5. Survivor-The last season was one of the best I've seen
6. House-The Emmy's should just mail Hugh Laurie his trophy every year
7. Fringe-Interesting though could very easily turn into a mess
8. Eleventh Hour-After a handful of episodes this show has become better and better.
9. World's Strongest Man-Its like watching demi-gods at play
10. Sanctuary-I'm not a big fan of the supernatural but this show makes it almost believable.
11. The Office-Not as funny as it used to be but it still manages to catch me off guard.
12. America's Game-A very serious and informative look at the NFL's best Super Bowl teams.
13. Lost-OK, get on with it already!
14. Work Out-More for its zaniness than information
15. Modern Marvels

LOST
Brotherhood
NCIS
Doctor Who
The Tudors
House
Burn Notice

I've been enjoying Fringe but it's still way too early for me to put it up.

Burn Notice! I can't believe I forgot Burn Notice.

I love this show, and can't wait for it to come back on.

Doctor Who series 4
Torchwood series 2, which feels like it was years ago
House seasons 4 and 5
Heroes volume 3... just
Top Gear series... 12 is it that's on now?
Terminator: TSCC seasons 1 and 2. Got properly hooked onto it about 2 months ago
Skins series 2, which I'm rewatching now and really had forgotten how I enjoyed the overblown antics of those rude and crude Bristol teens
Mock the Week - it's really come into its own this year

It's hard for me to carve out time for TV, but here has what made me stop and watch.

1. Skins ( 1 and 2 shown back to back on BBCAmerica) Kind of upset when it ended last Sunday but is the best show I've watched this year.
2. Daily Show and Colbert Report-always a good evening night cap.
3. Robot Chicken-took me a while but I began to enjoy this one.
4. Dr. Martin-not amazing but a good pallet cleanser after Skins on Sunday night.
5. Top Gear-Other than aesthetic value I'm not a car guy but I seem to enjoy this show for some reason. It also seems to be shown willy nilly on BBCAmerica so not sure what season is shown.
6. Thomas the Tank Engine-Because I don't have a damn choice. My son is a fanatic. I think I've seen every episode produced. It is funny to hear George Carlin do the voices on some of the episodes though. I've slowly grown to love the miniatures and the simplistic nature of the show.

Bones (Angela Montenegro, how do I love you?)
Supernatural (season 4 hasn't aired here yet, though)
NCIS (thank you Greek tv, where I first saw this)
BSG (looking forward to the final episodes, it's been a labour of love)
Dr Who (Donna Noble, I love you)
Sarah Connor Chronicles (only seen 3 episodes so far)
Top Gear (don't stop cocking around, lads)
Lost (I always enjoy watching this more than I think I do)
Dexter (a total class act)
Strictly Come Dancing (Vincent Simone. Argentine Tango. Say no more)
Torchwood (Captain John does Captain Jack. There is no bad here)

^ It cheers my very being to see someone else on here who likes Skins :D

Loved it. Don't know if this is a good or a bad thing but it captured my teenage years perfectly. I hope the US doesn't try and redo it for American like I've heard. We have enough sanitized TV here already. Also hope that season 3 is as good if not better.

I'm sure if I had more time, I would have been able to catch and add to the list House, NCIS, CSI, and Stargate Atlantis.

I can tell you that I don't watch 20 different shows. '24' will be back on the list soon, but it hasn't aired since May '07...

Skins could never, ever work as a US version - the whole thing is set around drugs, sex, swearing... I'm impressed it actually got shown. I mean, this is a show that had students doing a musical based on 9/11!

Series 3 starts on Channel 4 over here in late January and is going to revolve around Effy and her friends. That in itself is enough to get me to tune in, cos Effy is awesome.

There's a significant limitation to these amateur lists---what about the ones we just didn't see? I've never seen Big Love, The Wire or Dexter Season Three, for instance.

We disagree on many, many things... but if you haven't seen The Wire yet, you need to, immediately. Certainly there's a vibrant debate and discussion over that series waiting to be had on these boards. It's better than Dexter, and better than Battlestar Galactica. Okay, so at least one of those endorsements won't mean anything to you in particular, but see the Wire as fast as you can.

And I should add to my list the series Spooks (AKA MI-5), for I just started the fifth season on DVD, and its immediately reminded me of why I prefer this series over the infinitely less complex 24 (both stylistically and politically) that we have stateside.
