Getting back to the topic, there are any number of authors who have delved briefly into Trek lit, but whom are probably better known for their original work: Greg Bear, Kij Johnson, Laurel Hamilton, S. P. Somtow (aka Somtow Sucharitkul), etc.
Although most of those are people who did their Trek books before they became big names for their original work. .
True, although Somtow was well-established as a science fiction and horror author before he dabbled in Trek that one time. Nowaday, by the way, he's busy composing and conducting operas.
And I need to make a shout-out to Kij, my co-author on Dragon's Honor, who is up for the Hugo Award for Best Short Story tonight in Reno.
Good luck, Kij!
