Trek after Nemesis?

I remember reading that Spiner (and Logan) had ideas already for a post Nemesis film, do we know any details?

Just thinking about this a bit, in terms of ST III and how it was all about bringing Spock back, and wondering if a film including bringing the real 'Data' back (even using B4's body) could have brought closure and help Nemesis not suck as much as it did.

According to an interview somewhere (or was it comments at a convention?), it was supposed to be a "Justice League of Trek" involving time travel, bringing together crewmembers from all the shows to fight a similar mishmash of villains. IIRC, Spiner said that Data would have been beamed away from the Scimitar a second before he was originally killed.

Interesting, i wonder if the 'non death' of Data would have been revealed at the beginning, middle or end of the piece. I would say middle would be the most logical place for the surprise twist, something that would enable the crew to 'win' against their opponent.

Doesn't sound like a great idea but thanks for the info, anything else would be great.

I think Walter Koenig wrote a spec treatment of a Final Trek Movie which involved people from all the shows and most of them died (I forget which magazine I read this in). I think it was called "In Flanders Fields" or something. Apparently an updated version of a treatment he wrote for Star Trek VI which only concerned the original cast. I remember thinking that the updated version was a bit fanwanky.

Stupid Flanders….

That sounds like it would break new ground in sucking.

Wow indeedily doo, that sounds bad.

I would still like to have either an animated TNG farewell, or even a TNG console game, to give the crew one fitting farewell, and a nice sign off like TOS had with VI. Seeing that Picard had a moment in the Countdown comics was nice.

I don't think Data's "death" was a reason for Nemesis supposedly "sucking."

Having the cheap, tired B4 thread as a chance for him to still be alive, THAT sucked. Oh, sure, let me just download all my memories into this prototype we just found... great idea!

I say leave Data dead. (Trip, too. ;) )

Data's death can be justified, and was a rather good sequence. The fact that they gave him little development, concentrated the movie on a cheesy villain, pulled Remans straight from Uranus, and mind raped Troi for no good reason, etc, was what made it suck.

As much as I really like TNG, and I am sure that DS9 and VOY fans were disappointed that their characters didn't make much of an appearance in any TNG-era film, I think it would be odd to have another Trek film along those lines at this point. I think that if they were going to do it, they would have done it over the last ten years. I certainly wouldn't miss it if it were to come out, and I don't think that Nemesis was a particularly good ending for the TNG crew (for many reasons), but I am not sure that this far on, it would feel right.

"The Avengers" type 5th TNG film would have just catered to the Star Trek fanboys and those just do not have the mass numbers like the way we have Marvel film fanboys out there today thanks to films like X-Men, Iron-Man, and Thor to name a few. :borg:

Somebody (Abrams?) wrote a graphic novel- "Countdown"- that tied into the events of Star Trek 11 (2009). That might've made a much better and more appropriate "send-off" for the TNG crew and "bridge" between "old Trek" and Abrams Trek.

I'd like to see that if it is out there still. Nemesis was supposed to be a send-off, but it never really felt like that to the degree I think they were aiming for when it was originally conceived.

There will be no non-Abrams Trek films after Nemesis. Fin.

The TOS crew is starting to pass away, so that's out of the question. The TNG crew is hitting old age and Nemesis was the supposed finale anyways. DS9, Voyager and Enterprise didn't have enough of a following to justify a movie, and even if they did, there would have been one by now.

The most we could hope for is: a) more Abrams Trek films and, b) maybe, hopefully another Trek series, but even that seems unlikely. The target audience doesn't really exist anymore, IMO. Also, after the spectacular failure of Enterprise, no network would be willing to even touch Trek with a ten foot pole.

Game over, man. Game over.

The graphic novel should still be in print. It is a good lead-in to the 2009 film and reveals the post-Nem fate of most of the main TNG characters. It also provides a little more of Nero's backstory.

This guy I heard the last STAR TREK movie did aweseome. So id say that not very accurate. It will be back on TV when im 54 and almost dead.

I don't think Abrams Trek is the last word on Trek either. It is too big a franchise to go away forever. It will be interesting to see what happens after Abrams wraps up his Trek movies (I'm assuming there will be at least three movies). It probably will go back to TV. I've read on this site about ideas of a John Cho Sulu/Excelsior series which would make sense, spinning off from the movies. Or someone could come up with a new take, a la Ron Moore's reimagining of BSG.

One thing I think Trek needs is a new animated series. That could whet some appetites between films and in the immediate aftermath perhaps of the Abrams film series conclusion.

Yeah, Countdown should still be out there, at comics store, or you might even find it at your local library, if it carries graphic novels. There was also a Nero miniseries which takes place after he arrives in the alternate timeline and explains what he was doing from his arrival until his appearance in the film. I thought Countdown was better.

Also, Trek Lit. also provides info on the post-NEM fates of the TNG characters, though it appears that it might diverge from what was written in Countdown. I said appears because the TNG Countdown future takes place several years after where Trek Lit. is right now, so I can't say with certainty the characters' lives won't go the way they are portrayed in Countdown. It just seems highly unlikely.

Countdown draws more from the Star Trek Online timeline, which incorporates part of the Trek Lit. timeline but also diverges from it.

Sure there will....once Abrams leaves the franchise which eventually will happen.

Eventually, yes. But one of the problems is that Abrams Trek is what people like these days. A lot of action and budget, not much substance. It's Trek for the A.D.D. generation.

The series was written by Tim Jones and Mike Johnson with a story by the film's writers Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci.

In fact, this week IDW is supposed to be releasing reprints in a boxed set: "Countdown", "Nero" and "Spock Reflections", that all tied in to the JJ movie.
